Nehalem Core i7 good for PS2 emu?

Well I quickly tested software rendering with DX10 and DX9 with 2 and 3 threads.

Effect was like I was able to play symphonia with 35 fps in towns and 55 fps with skits and battle... well never got that far ;P

What do I have to do if I wanna test that "software rendering"?

Use GSDX (the latest version - currently 1.12 - as it improves Software speed.) and select "Direct3D9 (Software)" (or "Direct3D10 (Software)" if you have that) in "Renderer".

Still, hardware is more constant and higher in speed (with exceptions) that software at least for my ati hd2600xt and C2D 6550 2.33Ghz.
C2D E6550 @ 2333 Mhz oc 3010 Mhz vcore 1.2750v | HD2600XT | P5KC | 1 + 1 GB G.Skill 6400HK 860 4.4.3.5

Thanks, I've tryied software mode with two threads on my Q6600 and still is faster with Hardware so we have to wait until we see octo CPUs or something higher.

It runs great on Vista 64 with my Core i7 965. About the only major slowdowns I see occur during load times. I haven't tried a lot of games yet, but the few I have got around 30fps or higher. This PC is leaps and bounds ahead of my last machine, a 5-year-old Pentium 4 machine.

Could you post some benchmarks for some games using software rendering with 1, 2, ... ,7 threads?

I agree, I'd also like to know how well gsdx scales with more rendering threads.
A nice and simple test would be running the BIOS with pcsx2 set to speed (DaZ enabled, x2 sync hack enabled),
and watching the fps with gsdx software renderer at 2,3.. - 6 threads (going up to 7 or 8 might freeze the emu Tongue2 ).
