Netplay lag

My friend and I are trying to play Budokai tenkaichi 3, and when we fight, the game slows down. Any way to fix the lag? like setting the 1-15 number to a certain number that works better than others?

can't tell if it's something related to the emu or the game.
IIRC, this game had lagging problems when using netplay.
do you get the same problem when using your PS2 ?
