Nehalem CPUs can perform more instructions per clock compared to any of amd's offerings as well as the conroe/penryn cpus.

uh.. it would be really helpful to know what popular benchmark performs similarly to pcsx2. Some synthetic benchmark maybe?
So we can easily compare CPUs

I have "only" a GT240 graphics card but it runs almost all games very well.
C2D E8500 3166mhz => running 3800mhz, 2GB RAM, Asus GT240 512mb GDDR5 overclocked
Currently playing: none on PCSX2

The i7 auto overclocks itself when it needs to. The i7 920 I believe gets up to 3.4 ghz on a single thread or 3.2ghz on 2 threads (what pcsx2 uses). So based on that alone it would perform better.

There are many PC benchmarks out there that you can use to compare performance of CPUs... I prefer cinebench myself since it takes advantage of as many threads as you have available for... but precisely because it can use as many threads as possible makes it bad to compare to PCSX2 performance.

920 have 1/1/1/2 turbo boost scheme. So it's 266Mhz increase in single core and 133 -- in double. Big boost is on 860 -- 1/1/4/5 scheme.
