New to PCSX2
#1
Hello fellow emulator players and game fans. I am pretty new to this site, as I recently joined so that I may follow along this emulator's community and perhaps gain experience to better handle some things with it. (Btw, sorry for this introductory speech, I was not sure what to write. XD)

But yeah long story short, as the title says, I am pretty new to a lot of PCSX2 stuff. I can load and play games just fine (at least my basics are covered, I think Tongue2), but other than that, I am preeeeeetty much lost on the vast seas of ps2 emulation. Frame rate issues, performance issues, cheat activation and assorted stuff, these are all still pretty hard for me to understand their workings. And I am no programmer or mod-savvy either, so I am stuck in basic-user hell. x)

Anywho, I am blabbering now, so I will wrap this up. I am just glad that I am part of this community now and I hope that I gain a better understanding of this emulator from this place and it's community. And many thanks in advance to any helpful members who will go out of their way to advice a young emulating pup like me. Laugh

In order to help you further with your problem, please make sure the following are all provided.
  • Your hardware specs - CPU, Graphics Card, Memory, Operating System.
  • The version of PCSX2 you are using.
  • Any non default settings you are using.
  • What games you are trying to play and if you are playing them from ISO or DVD.

Thank You.

GPU : NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070

Ah ok, gotcha. Here's my specs:

PCSX2 Version: 1.2.1
---------------------------------------------------------
CPU: Intel® Core™ i7-4510U CPU @ 2.00 GHz
Graphics: NVIDIA Geforce 840M
RAM: 4 GB
OS: Windows 7 Ultimate
---------------------------------------------------------
So far, there are only two games I am actively playing, seeing as I recently started using PCSX2. They are Breath of Fire: Dragon Quarter and Dragonball Z Budokai 3. Both are the European versions.
---------------------------------------------------------
I am pretty sure I have mostly default settings, except the button mappings and screen resolution. I think. A computer-savvy friend of mine set me up the emulator for my computer, so I don't really know what exactly he changed for my computer to run it (and I am kinda hesitant to twinkle with these settings XD). I am also using the European BIOS to play the two games I have, though I have access to other region BIOS as well.

make sure you set power plan to performance mode and don't run on batteries.
Your CPU's quite good (for a laptop) and medium demanding games (like the ones you mentioned) should run fine if you don't push gsdx internal res too high (2x, maybe 3x native).
Enable recommended speedhacks too, and test MTVU speedhack (since you only have 2 cores, it may improve a bit or make them worse, depending on how multi-threading is handled by the game you're emulating).

Oh, have no worries, it is always hooked on it's charger, so no batteries or power-saving modes whilst running this bad boy. ;D

As for the rest of the details you mentioned, I think it's already set on the medium or lower gsdx (I always set all my games to the lowest graphical displays, so that they run smoothly. I usually don't mind poor graphics if it means that my games stop sounding like they smoked 10 pots at once. XD)

As for speedhacks, I have no idea where to find these and how to set them up, I am afraid. ><

I am really not in touch with the emulator's utilities and what to change from them, sorry. ><

can you please post the emulog.txt after you run a game ?
you should find it in pcsx2\logs\emulog.txt or my documents\pcsx2\logs\emulog.txt

this is probably the main problem.
update your nvidia drivers, and select the appropriate GPU in gsdx settings

Threading the components is handled by the emulator, the games don't handle it. If you had intended to mean on how threading fares on the game, I'm sorry Tongue2

PCSX2 emulates the Console PS2, not the games.
We're supposed to be working as a team, if we aren't helping and suggesting things to each other, we aren't working as a team.

This is out of option for me, I am afraid. I have installed in my computer some older video games and certain programs and they have problems with newer Nvidia updates, so to avoid them, I keep my drivers there, where I know they will run any of these normally*. Besides, the PS2 games that interest me are, as you put it, medium demanding games, so I am probably not gonna be playing the big stuff anytime soon.

*(this also includes the two PS2 games I am playing on PCSX2. They are both running pretty smoothly most of the time, with the occasional FPS drop during flashy in-game attacks, or when I have multiple things open alongside the emulator.)
