Number of cores or frequency of cores

Hello people, I'm hoping to get some clarifications on this subject.
what should you pay for when getting a rig either for PC gaming or emulation, is it the Number of cores or frequency of the core. Any contributions will be really appreciated.

and how much STR must a CPU have for it to be a"GOOD" CPU

depends on the emu.
for pcsx2, aim above 2000 STR

so i will be keeping my PC (i5 3570) which has an STR of 2022 for a little longer then, and save up for a good GPU

jesalvein isnt wrong.. especially with pcsx2.  STR is king!

That said, many PC games are going more multithreaded.  The 2nd gen ryzens are in that neighborhood or slightly higher for str.. but running 8 cores 16 threads on the cheap.  The 2700x has a stp of ~2200.  It would be a more rounded system for PC and PCSX2 gaming.. 

For PC gaming, they do tend to use the gpu a LOT more though, and you're more likely to be bottle-necked there than with a CPU.  Something like a gtx1070, while still expensive.. will do well in gaming today.. and probably for a couple years to come.. then you'll have to start turning down settings to keep it at a smooth 60 fps.

The ryzens.. they're close to 300 here in the US.. so I'm not saying they're cheap... Your proc is good enough to handle most everything though.. I played Shadow of the Colossus with a 3770..

I checked the STR of the i7 3770 it's around 2068 not much higher than mine.
so I guess the CPU bottleneck will be more from the PC games

just a remark from my side regarding STR cpu's.
I'm currently building up a system from scratch and was looking for a cheap cpu solution.

The new intel core i3-9100f has a decent STR/price ratio (https://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu.php?cpu...Hz&id=3479)

Just in case you plan to have a system only for emulation.
