OutRun 2 SP (SLPM66628) run slowly
#1
Hello World

Just a word to thanks the team for your excellent work. I follow this until today for widescreen code to patch my iso for my PS2 then my BC PS3. Now I complet it with PCSX2.

I succes to run lot of games without any problem...like Rogue galaxy, FF12 Zodiac job system or Macross ( this dont run on PS3 full or semi BC or PS2classic emulator).

But OR 2 SP run very slowly. my spec:

Laptop Asus N53 SN with 6gb RAM, Intel Core  i7 2630QM 2 GHz ~ 2.9 GHz and GPU GEFORCE 550M 2GB.

I try with OPEN GL and Direct3D11 in hardware or software but it's not good. Last thing CPU never exceeds 2.6 mhz.

How to increase it speed please?

THX

What version of PCSX2 are you running?
Can you post your emulog and screenshots of your settings

Also what are the EE and GS % during the slow parts or all the time if it is just generally slow period?

I think It's the CPU 1300 STR (i7 7500u destroy it with 1900 STR lol)

THX, it's seems the PCSX2 1.4.0-20160105132032- compiled on Jan  5 2016 version.

The game is slowly only when I m on the road.....menu or intro run fine.

First thing I would try would be using one of the newer PCSX2 Git builds the official 1.4.0 is really old
https://pcsx2.net/download/development/git.html

Second check windows power settings and make sure you are on maximum performance. Then check Nvidia's control panel and make sure you are on maximum performance. Also make sure if your computer's manufacturer has any managment software that is disabled or set to maximum perfomance. Your CPU is on the weak side for PS2 emulation, so lets make sure nothing is lowering that performance any more then necessary.

Thx it's a little bit with the last version, I will check I can to force run the CPU to 2.9 GHz. But one question what's a good config for this emu?
Reply
#7
Really the best config is default unless you either have enough extra performance to increase some of the "enhancement" options (higher internal resolution, AA, ect.)
Graphic backends tend to be OpenGL is the best (if you can run it) DirectX if your GPU does not like OpenGL (more issues maybe more speed) and Software if the game requires it. (least issues, no real enhancments, least speed depending on CPU heavily)

mtvu is fairly safe to use on most games -- there are some exceptions

Cycle rate\stealing is kind the last refuge of the desperate -- some people have claimed miracles, but it can just as easily break a game or hurt performance too.

The rest are really mostly there for debugging and fixing specific games of specific issues so there is no "best setting".

Sorry I would like said hardware config....what's CPU and GPU laptop prefered.....
Reply
#9
Generally a Laptop with a HQ version i5 or i7 (prefered) and a dedicated GPU never hurts if you want to go above native or have other enhancements (plus there are a few heavy gpu games that benefit from more then an iGPU)

So an example would be the Dell 7000 series with the 7300hq or even better the 7700hq.

Low demanding games we recomend a passmark single threaded score of 1600 for high demand games we recomend 2000

It's all about the games that you want play...Some are CPU/GPU intensive
