Alright, once I get it built I'll PM you a link. It will be later tonight or some time tomorrow. I may tweak things a bit more to get it as good as possible before testing.

@jlwmanagement - The ones I personally have seen benefit(or have received reports of) are:
  • Crash Bandicoot - The Wrath of Cortex (~5FPS gain)
  • Shadow of the Colossus (0-10 FPS gain depending on area)
  • Kingdom Hearts + 60 FPS patch(this makes sense - the game wasn't designed to run at that FPS on real hardware, so even with the 60FPS patch it will drop below 60 and even 30 sometimes. Overclocking the EE mitigates that a bit.)
  • One other one Fezzer told me, I can't remember
  • Any emulators for PS2 like SNES, PGEN, etc
  • Rama mentioned on Github that Phantasy Star Complete Collection(a retail game) uses a Genesis emulator internally, and currently has cracking audio due to being a bit CPU starved, so this should help there

By the way -

I'd like to thank Saiki for his assistance. Back when I was first working on this, Saiki was the one who showed me where the variables and stuff were in the code, that way I didn't have to hunt them down. I will update the OP with this too.

No waste. FFX doesn't gain anything, I don't know about DQ8.

You can still test any game you like - Fezzer tested about 30 I think. There are still many games left to test which might improve. Especially any game that is light on the GS (like 2d games) and VU would stand to improve a good bit I think(if they aren't capped).

Thanks.

Idea of a game for testing;
I wonder if it will have some positive effect on Ibara, that Cave cv1000 shmup port features lots of slowdowns during gameplay, a few (intended) true to those found on the arcade board original game, but also many that shouldn't be here and suspected to be either due to game code modifications so it could 'fit' in the PS2's frame, or genuine bottle-necking.
If it does eliminate some of the unwanted slowdowns I will do a comparison with the original board (which I also happen to own).

Out of interest, how much of an effect would over-clocking the VU (as mentioned on the github issue) do?

Well the VU slider doesn't work like the EE slider - it's not really a clock control. I have trouble explaining and understanding it but generally the VU slider lets the VU subsystem steal cycles from the EE in order to dedicate more time to VU stuff.

And before it even comes up - there is no point in overclocking the GS either. As it stands now, it's completely unlocked anyway. So there is nothing to gain there.

I just opened an issue on Github requesting display of real, internal, in game FPS. That would be very useful for testing the effects of this overclock, and also for more effective utilization of speedhacks.

This would be good! I had to compile myself the pcsx2 to overclock it to play Kingdom Hearts @60fps.
In my experience overclocking it by a lot on Kingdom Hearts incresead slightly the cpu usage. Initially I though it would increase the usage linearly I didn't turn out to be true. Anyone else has comments on he cpu usage?

I was using my i7 920 @ 4GHZ.

You are the one who opened the initial issue on Github, right?

Since you did it yourself, I'm curious what you used for the ScalarLow/ScalarMid/ScalarHigh values.

I used 1,2,1 for the first slider position and 0,1,0 for the second one.
