PAL and NTSC question
#1
Hmmm...here's an interesting question:
Since NTSC games run at 60fps and PAL games run at 50fps, if my US Fatal Frame 2 runs at 52fps, does this mean if I buy a EU Fatal Frame 2 I'll be able to play it at 50fps stable? Or it won't make a difference?

It depends on the game itself. For some games I know, if I get 65 FPS in the NTSC version, I get 55 FPS in the PAL counterpart.

as Livy said it depends on the game. but usually the pal version will run close to the same percentage of fullspeed as the ntsc-u version.
so in your case the ntsc-u game is running at ~86.6% of fullspeed, so the pal game will likely run the close to that same percentage, it just will give less fps... which in your case will be ~43.3 fps.

Actually, I requested a friend to give me his copy of the game, which is PAL (funny thing - my PS2 is NTSC, yet I' in europe...I blame my sister) and not sure if it's just me or not, bu tit runs a lot better...it's yet to drop below 50fps for some reason and later I tried the US one I have and it didn't run as good...

If anyone happens to have the same game in NTSC and PAL formats, can you please try it and tell me if it gives you the same result?

P.S. is it normal for a PAL game to run under US Bios in PCSX2?

For that part, it's possible the game was properly rewritten for PAL. Most PAL games are stupid conversions from NTSC, that works slower to get that 50fps, and that's the general idea behind it, but there are at least a few(don't have Fatal Frame 2, but I do know it's a case for Budokai Tenkaichi 3 - probably whole series) that actually work better in PAL. Are easier to emulate, got slightly higher native res. It's rare probably, but it could also be the case for FF2.

Thanks for the info! ^^

But now I have a different question...if PAL games are meant to run at 50fps...why is my friend's Project Zero 2 (Fatal Frame 2 in the US) still running at 50-60fps (variable, but passes 50fps in many cases)? Oo

I haven't disabled the Frame Limiting, so shouldn't the emulator force it to stop at 50fps?

While this isn't related to the thread, I'mma gonna go ahead and post this anyways; you do realize there's an "Edit Signature" option in the User CP, right? No need to keep adding one for each post.
