PCSX2 AMD

As said before, AMD's current CPUs are slow compared to current gen i5/i7 series but doesn't mean AMD sucks for PCSX2, depends on the game you're trying if it'll be enough to play anyway.

No, not quite right. At least when compared with pcsx2 fps.

Here's why:

49.08 FPS - SLUS 20672 - Intel Core i7 920 - 2.66 GHz Stock - Master_DX
48.78 FPS - SLUS 20672 - Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550 - 2.83 GHz Stock - tuanming
48.41 FPS - SLUS 20672 - Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 - 3.00 GHz Stock - antespo
48.34 FPS - SLUS 20672 - AMD Phenom II X4 945 - 3.3 GHz OC - Abelus
48.05 FPS - SLUS 20672 - AMD Phenom II X6 1055T - 3.33 GHz OC - ilovejedd (Turbo Core off) - CPU-Z
47.69 FPS - SLUS 20672 - AMD Phenom II X4 955 - 3.2 GHz Stock- Ryner Lute

AMD CPUs clocked at over 3GHz still could not manage to beat a lowered clock C2Q. Let play a bit fair and say bump the clock speed of the Q9550 to 3.2GHz and see what would happen, shall we?

56.44 FPS - SLUS 20672 - Intel Core i5 650 - 3.2 GHz Stock (Turbo Boost on) - ilovejedd
55.17 FPS - SLUS 20672 - Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550 - 3.2 GHz OC - tuanming

Well, would you look at that. Amazing isn't it? lol

I have an i7 930 and ffx-2 runs 60+ fps (80~fps on the intro movie when limiter is off), my old core 2 duo [email protected] used to get around 40-45 fps on the intro movie though

anyways Intel performs best on pcsx2, I also don't see the point in that benchmark its using an old pcsx2 revision and limits the gsdx thread to one (if half the users even followed that part)

60 - 80 fps on FFX-2 opening fmv? I smell bs. Unless you're talking about with speedhacks enabled Rolleyes

not using the benchmark build (haven't tested that) but with the latest build & MTVU Smile, without mtvu I get about 59-60fps

anyways, need someone with amd to test with mtvu (really if they get 60fps then it's good since no point in going over it), again I don't think that benchmark is a reliable source to test pcsx2 since its testing based on the video (not in-game speed), and its results are based on just one game alone.

Although I'm not a AMD fan, The AMD Phenom II looks like a semi-decent choice when it comes to AMD, I think Intel is still the best choice for emulation (not just pcsx2) since alot of emulators can take advantage of the extra instruction sets Smile

The FFX-2 benchmark 'accidentally' uses VU1 for the video upload.
So it's actually not bad for judging overall fitness for PCSX2, even with MTVU Smile

even if Intel is better for PCSX2, most people just can't afford the insanely expensive CPUs of Intel, myself I like AMD and so far every game I ran on PCSX2 runs just fine with my Phenom II X4 980 BE @ 3.7 Ghz (Stock) Also what I noticed is that the stock cooler of the 980 is LOUD! Bloody thing sometimes runs at 6.7k rpm O.O my old Athlon 64 x2 6000+ never came above 3.5k lol

That's some crazy fan speeds Tongue2, the i7's also have an annoying stock fan (not sound wise) it just runs about 1500-2000 rpm all the time, I think it has some type of ambient thermal sensor built into the fan (or a bug in the motherboard) since even if I disable "smart fan (pwm control)" in the system bios it only does 2000 rpm, the only way to speed it up is if the whole system temp increases (not just the cpu temp) it then steps up to 2500 rpm (I think it has a max speed of 3000), so kindof annoying if you want to overclock.

lets throw xenosaga at it without any speed hacks!
