PCSX2 - Widescreen Game Patches
I don't see a patch for Shadow of the Colossus? Has it not been patched? Also, I noticed a bug with Burnout Dominator: the HUD scales correctly to 16:9 but the 3D elements don't so the cars and tracks and everything appear stretched

If it is does, can i put them in the OPL manager?

I apologize in advance if i break any rules by asking the question.

Hi,

Never used OPL manager myself so can't say that I know. But, if you mean using cheats found here on real hardware via OPL built-in cheat mode, codebreaker, PS2RD or any other software of that kind THEN yes.

You must convert them via "Pnach converter" to RAW format then put them in a "*.cht" file. You can follow examples found on the net like this one for instance (Look at the 2nd post, ignore the rest): https://gamehacking.org/vb/forum/video-g...2rd-cheats.

It is a technique from the previous century, inferior to, as you have noticed, the current pixel perfect solution. The loss of visual quality is unavoidable (at least in the PCSX2 you can increase the internal resolution).

Aww, I was hoping good news but that's ok. Just by curiosity, probably a weird question, if somehow there was a code to force the game in 16:9 (including HUD (optional)), while being in the 4:3 option, would it still be anamorphic widescreen? If I'm not wrong the PC versions, without mods, they only have 4:3 resolutions but how did ThirteenAG and Aero manage to fix the games aspect ratio without losing quality? Thanks in advance.

NFS games are not even running in full 640x448 resolution. They are 512x448... squish this resolution to 16:9 on a 1080p/4K screen and you can't expect to look good.

Oh, now I understand, thanks Smile

Hi,

The only way to have true widescreen would be to modify internal resolution (from 640x480 to 720x480).
As said in precedent posts, Anamorphic widescreen degrades a bit the quality (more rendering in the same resolution), and some games like NFS series uses a 512x448 resolution suposedly for performance reason.

Your best bet in quality speaking is to try "Xploder HDTV player" instead of GSM (gives a clearer picture in general) this way:

*480p mode.
*4:3 mode in the game options (Unfortunately, the 512x448 resolution prevents the game to be displayed in full screen in progressive mode. It would need a bump in resolution to 512x448 to 640x448 by cheats not found afaik). Smile

//Keep on always
patch=1,EE,20430F60,extended,40000000 //Internal widescreen on
patch=1,EE,002810e0,word,3c013f2b //3c013f00 //Render fix

Unsure if a fix was already posted (I didn't see one) or Devina is around much anymore, but
"patch=1,EE,20430F60,extended,40000000 //Internal widescreen on" prevents any other setting from being able to be changed. Disabling just this line, lets me change the other settings that it locks out. It is at least easy to enable the widescreen option and continue like nothing is wrong at least. If anyone else smarter than I could fix that so that the code is more complete, I would appreciate it.

(Also yes, the PC version and newer console versions are superior, a remake is on its way, but I am a sucker for Retro Achievements and they're not on the Gamecube yet xD)

Does anyone know of an update to these? The widescreen patching is much better than default, but there is NPC and object culling on the sides and they only appear when you get close enough to have "viewed" them in the original ratio. I know this is common, but it can sometimes be fixed.

Now That pcsx2 supports texture replacements
I think it's a better idea to extract the textures squeeze them to 75% width and then load them back to the emulator
