PCSX2 Yakuza saves read as corrupted on real PS2
#1
I tried to transfer my save file for Yakuza (with the undub patch) from PCSX2 to a real PS2 Slim by extracting it to a .psu file with myMC, putting that file on a USB stick and using uLaunchElf to copy it to my memory card. I've done this exact same procedure with two other games (Ape Escape 2 and We Love Katamari) and it worked fine, but when I tried it with Yakuza, the game gave me the following error message:

"All YAKUZA data on memory card (8mb) (for PlayStation 2) in MEMORY CARD slot 1 may be damaged. Would you like to overwrite damaged YAKUZA data?"

What's weird is when I run the game on PCSX2 I can access that same save file with no problems. It seems like somehow PCSX2 created a save for that game that it can read correctly, but a real PS2 cannot. I tried saving again in PCSX2 and repeating the procedure, but I got the same result. Any idea what's going on here?

The issue likely stems from differences in save file formats between PCSX2 and a real PS2. PCSX2 may create save data that the PS2 cannot read, especially if you’re using an undub patch, which might alter how saves are structured. Try saving a new game on the PS2 and transfer that back to PCSX2 to check the format.

Oh yeah, I might not have made this clear in the post but I'm also using the undub patch on PS2 (same ISO).

Anyway I tried as you suggested. The save created on PS2 worked perfectly on PCSX2, so the problem is only in the reverse.

Looks like the same issue as https://github.com/PCSX2/pcsx2/issues/9831
