PCSX2 and Eightcore
#1
Hi,

For first, i'm new here and my language is actually german (come from austria). So therefore sorry for my bad english, but i give me effort. Biggrin

The most important first, my specs

- Windows 7 64 bit
- CPU AMD Phenom FX 8120 Eightcore 3,1 GHz
- 8 GB RAM
- GPU Nvidia Gforce 970 with 4 GB

I think my system is more than enough for PCSX2. Other emulators like Dolphin or PPSSPP runs almost perfect. But i know, a AMD Processor has always problems with PCSX2, Intel has simply the best structure for PS2 emulation.

But nevertheless, i have 8 cores and my emulation runs slowly e.g. in GT3. Midnight Club runs better, but has also framedrops in some sections in the city. GT3 runs on some tracks with 50 fps, but city tracks have 25 or less fps.

Here the complete settings of my PCSX2:

I'm not a complete beginner for emulation, but this so confuse. I have also tested some SVN's versions (which version is recommendable for AMD CPU?) but no success for more frames. The normal version 1.2.1 runs even better for me. However I have only tested two SVN versions. So, what can i do for stable frames? Are eightcore the problem or my settings? (i have tried some settings already, no noticeable differences). Again, Intel is better for this emulator yes, but a 8 core with 3,1 GHz should handle this smoothly or?

Thanks in advance for all coming advice.

wrong.
many games will run fine, but very demanding ones will struggle.

yes & no.
AMD fails when it comes to STP. can't how ppsspp works, but Dolphin relies more on your GPU. Hence the better performance since your GPU is very good.

None. There is no specific version for a specific CPU

overclock over 4.0 Ghz

none of them

you could have 20 cores with 6Ghz, if STP is low, that wouln't change anything (Intel, AMD, whatever)
CPU : AMD Ryzen 7 3800X
Mobo : Asus PRIME B450-PLUS
GPU : NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070

I recommend:
Overclocking your CPU to ~4Ghz
Tweaking your PC with MSI Afterburner
Disabling HW Hacks in GSdx
Switching Widescreen to Fit to Screen in GS Windows Settings

What games are you trying to run? They may just not be as compatible with PCSX2.

It doesn't matter how many cores you have. PCSX2 can only utilize 3 cores max when MTVU is turned on.
having more than 3 cores doesn't help to improve speed at all, unless you're using GSDXs software renderer.

Singlethread performance is more important for pcsx2 than anything else,
so having a fast quadcore with a good singlethread performance is better than a octacore with less singlethread performance.
