PCSX2 doesn't recognize overclocked cpu
#1
I'm using an i5 4690k. I've overclocked it to 4.6 ghz but the console in pcsx2 still says i'm using the stock clock speed of 3.5 ghz and doesn't show any improvement in fps. Windows apps such as dxdiag and system information also tells me i'm running at 3.5 ghz but other apps such as cpu-z and core temp say i'm running at 4.6ghz.

probably they are just reading the stock speed and not the actual. You should trust cpu-z.

Regarding pcsx2: What kind of improvement would you expect by overclocking your cpu?
(Keep in mind that for NTSC-games the maximal fps is 60Hz. For PAL-games it is 50Hz)

well i'm trying to get 60 fps in mgs3 (not Hz), and it's giving me the same results that i got at stock speed.

PCSX2 has no control over your CPU speed, but the stock speed you see on the screen is in the ID string of your CPU, it isn't calculated.

Although i think there is another line that does calculate it, I can't remember.

well what i was thinking is that since the console says my cpu speed is 3.5ghz that it was only utilizing 3.5 ghz and ignoring the other 1.1 available.

It's not possible for a program to ignore a part of your clock speed.

fps = frames per second.
Hz = 1/s = one per second
If I say to you that you can reach 50 Hz it is the same as 50fps in this case.

Can you please specify again: How many fps do you achieve? With or without OC.
Which version of mgs3 do you use? NTSC (US) or PAL (Europe)?

I have NTSC and it drops as low as 43 fps. I was certain that with this processor i would never drop below 60.

Here's what the console says: http://prntscr.com/3zgdnx
Notice it says CPU Speed = 3.498 ghz
Cpu-Z says: http://prntscr.com/3zgk29

(Update) i was able to get windows to recognize my cpu is running at 4.6ghz, but pcsx2 still doesn't say it is and still runs the same.

You sure you are not getting throttled by heat?
