PSCX2 0.9.4 and too 0.9.6 shutting Down PC
#11
Just FYI, most single cores are safe getting a little toasty (mid 80s I suppose) but with a dual core (or C2D whatever) 107 is very unsafe so don't be surprised if your PC shuts off and doesn't turn back on if you continue letting your CPU get that hot.

My old pc was crashing, when my pentium 4 was reaching 80°. Because of bad cooling.
I couldn't play blasterball during hours.

hell, even when my very first laptop got at 75° C was really worriesome, and it was a Celeron D.
but... 108 with a C2D? damn, you got a problem there, my friend

Did you use a notebook or laptop to play with? Maybe that's the cause. Both temperatures of CPU and Graphics card are rising while playing PCSX2.

I am opening Firefox while writing this. Both of two cores are 35°C in E7200.

77C in firefox is still very bad. If you don't have a laptop open up the case and blow out the dust. If that doesn't fix it you might have to reseat the heatsink.

If you have a laptop it still might be dust but you'll need a can of compressed air to clean it and even then it might not help all that much.

I can get as low as 21c if I turn on my AC on MAX, put a box fan on it, and max out the CPU FAN. Though not much of a reason to get it that low...normally it idles @ 33-35. I can't believe your CPU reached 110c and isn't dead. I had heard temps over over 75c could fry the comp within 10-15 minutes...that's scary. On load, I get about 45-55c.

One thing to look into is an after-market cooler, or take the CPU off and check how the thermal paste is, if it's all dried up and crusty, you may want to replace it.(Trust me, I did this, instant 20c difference)

Airflow, ectera, try putting a box fan.

This thread got me thinking about my cpu since I have a core 2 duo as well. So I did some googling and here is the specs for my processor. From what I understood thermal specification is the maximum safe operating temperature for your cpu. But according to the official Intel site the max safe temp for my CPU is 100 C which I find hard to believe. Not sure what the op's model number is though or if the thermal specification is the same.

I am definitely concerned about temps because I live in an area where outside air temperatures regularly get to about 40 C during the day and that is on a cool day. haha

Right now I have been on firefox for about the past 2 hours and both my core temps are hovering around 44-47 C

What about GPU? I have a nVidia GeForce 7900 and the temperature of that has been at 60 C the whole time.

I just downloaded the system information tool that was recommended by several people when I googled CPU temperatures and I am going to go play some pcsx2 right now to see how high the temp jumps up.

To play it safe I think a CPU temp of 65 C is a good temperature to stop at, if it ever gets that high.

Note that Core Temps and CPU temperature are different terms.

I watch over my CPU with CPUID Hardware Monitor (HWMonitor for short), displaying Core Temps and CPU temperature in one window.

In my example, both cores are 36°C while CPU is 27°C (shown as TMPIN1). Core Temps are always higher than CPU temperature.
