PXSX2 won't run well on new, fast custom computer!?
#1
Alright, I've read through some threads and most people who ask the question similar to mine don't actually have a good PC. But I'm sure my PC should be able to run it. Here are my specs:

Processor: AMD Phenom II X4 940 Black Edition 3.00 GHz

RAM: 4.00 GB (Soon to be 5)

Operating System: Windows 7 RE 64-bit

Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce GTS 250

I'm trying to run Guitar Hero 2, but the second it starts a song the percentage drops from 99% to 50%-70%. Sometimes (if i'm lucky) it'll randomly go at full speed in the middle of the song and then stop after a few seconds. I've been changing the settings around for the past hour with no luck. Any ideas?

Thanks.

Ok, I've messed around with it some more and now when I start a game it's between 70% and 120%, but doesn't stay put.

Are you running the game from disc? if so try making a ISO of the game and run form there. Try also enabling some speedhacks maybe.

I'm running it from an ISO and I've enabled speedhacks. I just cant seem to get it to maintain the same frame rate now.

Guitar Hero is known to run slow. The only thing you can really do if you are already using speedhacks is to get your processor to go faster.

Wait, is it true that quad cores aren't supported?

quads are NOT supported, yes. my advice, run this in SW mode with as many threads as your PC can handle (4 perhaps? check the performance tab of task manager) and use EE1.5 and IOP x2

That makes it go even slower.. But my CPU % goes up to about 50%. That's good, right?

First off, what version of PCSX2 are you running? The latest betas are likely to give you more speed. Secondly, you have a Black Edition CPU, why not overclock it if a smooth game experience is absolutely needed?

Also, what's up with the 5 gigs things? You should run your RAM in dual channel mode, and since there exist no 2.5 GB RAM modules — at least none that I am aware of, especially at the consumer level —, you're good with 4 gigs.

Yeah, that was stupid from me, I should have thought about it. Ah, binary, binary...
