Perfomance on linux mint
#1
Hello there. I have a little question. I have installed PCSX2 on my linux mint Cinnamon and it works, but I have a serious problem: the sound.
No matter what options I tweak, the sound is always full of crackle and it doesn't matter what game I try either.

Oh I forgot to mention that on the same machine (I'm dual booting) on Windows 8.1 a somewhat older version of PCSX2 runs perfectly, I can play and the sound is just fine.
The machine is fairly new, so, it's just an issue that only happens to me on linux.

Also a little side question:
Since the new mint 18.3 supports flatpak  I would like to install from flatpak if that helps to get better performance.
I have seen that it's available here
https://tingping.github.io/2017/10/31/fl...ators.html
But when I use my distro's package manager, searching for PCSX2 doesn't give any results, so I cannot install it.
Is it a matter of waiting for it to go upstream or something?

Did you try adjusting the latency in PortAudio?

Yes I have tried adjusting the latency and all available settings.
PortAudio sound quality was worse by far than the SDL Audio.
PortAudio is just crackle and noise, I can't call that a sound output.
On the other hand the cracle in SLD audio is still unbearable.
moving all the latency settings only changes how delayed a crackle is from another.

On the other hand altough I'm using the latest version I would like to know if I have to add a package or something for the flatpak version to be available in my Linux Mint software manager, I really hope the flatpak version will work better.

Alternatively I guess I could use the windows version through WINE, because I can already run games with that.

Ah crap, it's just garbage on WINE!
Well...
According to this

https://forums.pcsx2.net/Thread-Any-plan...ak-support

Now I know how to get it installed.

Perhaps the instructions here
https://pcsx2.net/download/releases/linux.html
should be updated so anyone wishing to use flatpak could also have that alternative without having to dig for the info.

Now after installing this, it does work way better than the PPA version.
However it's still buggy.

I still had to switch to SDL Audio.

I get some red warnings and errors

Code:
(PCSX2:2): GLib-GIO-CRITICAL **: g_dbus_proxy_new: assertion 'G_IS_DBUS_CONNECTION (connection)' failed

Code:
(PCSX2:2): Gtk-CRITICAL **: gtk_box_gadget_distribute: assertion 'size >= 0' failed in GtkScrollbar

Code:
(PCSX2:2): dconf-WARNING **: failed to commit changes to dconf: GDBus.Error:org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.ServiceUnknown: org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.ServiceUnknown

and even though the sound now is indeed sound instead of crackle or garbage, it's still not completely right.
Sometimes (specially in some "cutscenes" ) the audio stutters, repeats parts or overlaps parts. I  don't remember that happening  when running on windows.
I have tried tweaking the latency, it doesn't help. but that problem  only happens in a single game so I guess it's fine.

What is a serious problem is that it doesn't recognize my joystick (most probably because it's a flatpak app and those are isolated)...
Oh well I guess I will search for a way to get that working.
