Please help me set up PCSX

I can't seem to set this up right because I'm gettin lag/major slow down in games. My PC specs are


Intel core i5 3.20ghz
6gb
windows 7 64-bit
Radeon 6870

Please any help I would appreciate because I have no clue on what I should do

would help if you say which games, some of them are very heavy and cpu intensive.

In order to help you further with your problem, please make sure the following are all provided.

• Your hardware specs - CPU, Graphics Card, Memory, Operating System.
  
• The version of PCSX2 you are using.
  
• Any non default settings you are using.
  
• What games you are trying to play and if you are playing them from ISO or DVD.

im using 1.0.0 and im running the game off a iso.

what do the EE% & GS % say when you get lags ?

Have a look at the top of gsdx window when playing.

the highest it gets is 55-56% its like a slow down during gameplay and cutscenes even the sound is dragging

you mean 55-56 for both EE% & GS % or only one of them ?
and how many FPS do you get in those particular cases ?

Did you enable any speedhacks ? (you never mentioned your pcsx2 settings)
