Probally a stupid question
#1
I'm quite new to emulators and I'm not quite still sure how they work. I downloaded Pcsx2 and was able to configure it so I'm able to play Resident Evil 4. Of course my computer is not that grand; it runs fine but parts with alot happening tend to lag (not to unplayable but just annoying). Either I'm not too used to this program and am unable to find a way to turn down resolutions or such to help with this. I was wondering if there was a way to turn down settings so the game will run smoother.

These are my computer specs:
Intel Core !3-370 processor 2.4 Ghz
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5470
4 GB DDR3 Ram
Windows 7-64 bit

I know my computer is unable to play the game at the level of a system, and I'm ok with that. I'm just wondering if there is anyway to have it run even alittle bit soomther. Like I said it's a stupid questions but never the less I'm not very experienced with emulators. Thank you for taking the time to reading this and perhaps responding.

your hardware can run pcsx2 perfectly, but recommended core clock for pcsx2 is 3.2ghz or higher, most people overclock their i3, its very overclock friendly cpu, you should ask Butz_san here is his profile http://forums.pcsx2.net/User-Butz-san he overclocked his i3 to 4.2ghz, and last time i asked he was running it at 4.0ghz 24/7, so im sure he can give you detailed info on i3 overclocking to get nice little overclock around 3.2ghz so you can run most games full speed on pcsx2, your gpu and ram is good, make sure youre using highest sse available for you should be ssse3 or sse4, make sure you use DX11 hardware plugin, and you can check recommended speedhacks theres 3 of them they usually dont cause bugs (others do), and thats pretty much it for configuring pcsx2, but you do need around 3.0ghz clock, it makes things a lot simpler as far as configuration goes and more enjoyable when playing

I'm not too sure really how the whole emulator is set up but let me try. I'm sorry if I'm unable to really understand what you might need to know.

Graphics: Gsdx 890 (MSVC 15.00, SSe2) 0. 1.14
Resolution: 640x480 60Hz
Renderer: Direct 3d9 (Hardware)
Shader: Pixel Sahder 2.o
Interlacing: None (not really sure what this is)
Aspect Ratio 4:3
D3D Internal res 1024 12024
Sw rend. threads 1

I'm actully not too sure about how to check or configure plug-ins (makes me wonder how I got this thing to work)

I'm not using the RE4 disc, I have an ISO file that I've mounted with magic disk.

for iso dont mount it, just use linuz iso plugin and then select iso. also for graphics plugin use sse4, renderer hardware DX11,resolution is resolution of the window you can switch between windowed and fullscreen mode by pressing Alt+Enter, interlacing is just different filters dont worry about that, D3D internal res is resolution which you want to at, so set it to your monitors max, for best quality.

OK, I have to said it, you probably cannot overclock that processor because it's a laptop!!, Laptops can't be overclocked, I mean, they can be overclocked but the temperature can damage your processor Sad. Yes, I have an i3 but mine is in a desktop PC, not a laptop, sorry bro. The i3 won't generate too much heat if you disabled HT on the bios, try that and then overclocked a little to see what happens, remember, you have to use Coretemp to see the temperature, that's the best advice I can give you Smile

Turn the internal resolution down, possibly down to native. The mobile 5470 is not too powerful, so you may be seeing a limitation there.

With overclocking a laptop's processor, the temps aren't necessarily the biggest problem (although a common one). What is would be the fact that most laptops BIOS lack the ability to OC. Otherwise, you'll have to hope you're PLL is compatible with SetFSB, but that's not really the best method.
