Problem: "high end" PC and slow performance.(onimusha 2)
#1
Hi,

I just tried for the first time this emulator, installation and initial configuration went without a problem, but I can't manage to play ONimusha in a stable 60/50 fps!!. Menus are OK but the moment there is rain/fog/smoke, more than 2 enemies or NPCs the framerate drops and the game becomes unplayable!
From what I've found on the internet, this game is fully playable with PCs lowers in specs as mine, so I don't understand.

Here are my PC specs:
OS: WIndows 7 home edition
CPU: Intel core i5 3Ghz
GPU: NVIDIA geforce GTX 660
RAM: 8gb DDR3

GSdx avx 0.1.16
SPU-2 2.0.0

I'm not running anything else in background, I v e tried all GS renders, speed hacks, but always the same downed fps...

I'm not sure if I posted this correctly, but any help will be thanked.

Are you using the MTVU speedhack? Config>Emulation Settings> Speedhacks. Tick the MTVU box.

What are your EE and GS percentages when a slowdown occurs? It's shown in the title bar when in windowed mode.

Wow that was fast!
I ticked the MTVU and framerate went higher, great improvement, but still it goes from 60 to 38-40 fps (at this moment EE is 100% and GS 70%).

EE at 100% means you CPU is struggling badly. You can try and enable EE Cyclerate speedhack, just look out for possible glitches caused by it.

Is it possible for you to overclock? That would help you greatly.

Lots of enemies in the beat 'em ups cause brutal cpu and gpu demand. In this case, cpu demand for your system. Overclock as best as you can, if your board and/or chip allows (as you don't have your specific i5 model mentioned).

according to the wiki this game can be run without speed hacks with a C2D Extreme @3.2ghz

are you using a lot of scaling? sometimes that adds to CPU overhead when using high scaling.

Otherwise, enable MTVU, all the recommended speedhacks, and set EE cycle hack to 2 (1 if you count from 0)

I seriously wouldn't trust the wiki. I've seen so much incorrect stuff on there.

Hi, thanks for the great amount of responses in so little time.
No scaling whatsoever, all in native. I managed to make the game playable with the MTVU option and (don't ask me why) rendering Direct3D9 (software). Its fairly stable (except on cutscenes).

My question is, if my CPU is struggling (wich I agree), why is it more stable with software rendering?

Is gsdx using your graphics card?

Ah! there is the issue, it's in software mode not hardware.

If you switch to hardware i'm betting you'll be fine, if you only want software, switch to dx11/10 it may have a speed up.

Change your plugin to the sse4.1, it should give a small speed up. If you have a 3rd gen (possibly even second gen i can't recal) you can use AVX which gives a boost in software mode specifically

Also this is how we find out if the wiki is right or not, i've made it my unofficial job to keep it as up to date as possible.

Though i think we should add a "software mode" requirement to the wiki though, As some people choose to run in software mode.
