Problem with emulation - Seikai no Senki [NTSC-J] [SLPM-65937]

Greetings!

This is a rather obscure Japanese title to ask about, but I'll try asking anyway.
The game, which is called  Seikai no Senki [NTSC-J] [SLPM-65937], launches fine (athough the memory card check image appears and disappears too fast), when customizing characters some sprites are messed up, but when I confirm my selection the game starts up again, from the memory check screen and intro credits.
I tried tweaking emulator settings but so far nothing helped.
I'd be very grateful if someone can point me in the right direction in solving this problem.

Also, its name in the database file (as well as on some websites) has a typo for some reason - "Siekai no Senki" instead of "Seikai no Senki".

In order to help you further with your problem, please make sure the following are all provided.
  • Your hardware specs - CPU, Graphics Card, Memory, Operating System.
  • The version of PCSX2 you are using.
  • Any non default settings you are using.
  • What games you are trying to play and if you are playing them from ISO or DVD.

My hardware specs are:
  • CPU: Inter Core i5-4200U CPU @ 1.60GHz
  • Graphics cards: NVIDIA GeForce GT 740M (using this one) and Intel HD Graphics (basic laptop stuff)
  • Memory: 12Gb
  • OS: Windows 10

The version of PCSX2 is 1.4.0

I tried emulating with default settings, as well as trying to change the Rendered setting and HW Hacks in GSdx Settings. So far nothing helped.

Using a BIOS file with PCSX2 which you have downloaded from the internet or from a PS2 console you do not own is illegal. You must own the console the BIOS file came from (even if it's broken) to be legal.
