Ratchet and Clank 3: Up your Arsenal
#1
Hi PSCX2 community,

I'm having trouble with R&C3 , the game happens to be crashing at a certain level. the level is called planet Daxx surrounded by water , factories and a tropical island area. Upon entering the area. I'll experience some minor Audio Lag then a total graphical freeze after a short period , the game stops running but the Audio continues... the game stops receiving and input from me(e.g pressing start will not pause the game). It only happens on this level which is strange... but i have encountered other level specific glitches on other levels.

My Specs:
Windows 8 Pro
AMD Anthlon 2 3.00GHZ Dual core
Nvidia GTX 550 Ti
8GB DDR3

MY Settings:

SPEED HACKS:
EE Cycle rate = 2
VU cycle steal = 1
Spin Detection = On
Wait Loop Detection = On
Fast CD acess = OFF
mVU Flag = ON
MTVU = ON

FrameLimiter:
ALL Default exceptfor Base which is 125%
FrameSkipping = Disable(enabling causes similar effect at all levels except it will repair itself then start again)

Video Plugin Settings
Adapter = NVIDIa GeForece GTX550Ti
Render-er = Direct X 11 (HArdware) (software doesn't fix it)
Interlacing = Auto
Texture Filtering = On
8bit textures = ON
HW HAcks = ON
Antistropic Filtering = off

HW HAcks
Skip Draw = 1
Alpha is opn
Half Pixel Offset = ON
Sprite = On
Wild Arms Offset = ON;
the rest is Off

here is the log of my last session that had that crash
Notice th DMA error before the closing? thats is what I expect has something to do with it but what?

disabling speed hacks didn't do it(it just made it happen slowly) and software mode did the same thing... I thought this game was "playable " start to finish?

Anyway... any tips advice or even solution to this problem would be greatly appreciated....

Also anyone else that the lazers and bullets from the N60 storm are invisble only on Planet Marcadia? weird that, software or settings doesn't affect it either...

And try not to use widescreen hacks for the moment.

After some fiddling based on your two suggestions, i got through it.
turning off Wide screen Hack and switching off all Speed hacks at once(not just EE and VU cycles) and switching to DX9( Hardware) got me through to the end of the level.
it ran a surprising 45 FPS instead of 74.9 which is pretty good for this Dinosaur.

I'm not fully convinced that this is the real solution but it works for now, not sure where to pinpoint it but I'll keep fiddling with it and see what it does. (maybe is based on grab water relfections and the wide screen hacks messes it up? idk)

As for the invisible bullets on Marcaida issue... still no fix for that one, but that's more inconvenience on that one...

Thanks Jesalvien and Willkuer! +1!
Now i can enjoy Rachet and Clank Again!

I also have this game and never encountered such an issue. Weird.

your computer is probably a bit different to mine, hardware wise... there's a bunch of factors that could cause this, it might even been just caused by a scratch on the disc.. so when i ripped it the error got transferred(very unlikely). you could be using an updated PSCX2 (mines 1.21) which has a better (or worse) Wide screen hack, or you have a better version or DX11 (or 10) or your CPU can handle the speed hacks better.. its endless

if you want to simulate it... just set you frame skipping to 2 draw 1 skip and play it... you will experiencing a freeze effect... where the game will still run while the graphics freezes tempoarily(you can still pause , run around and play the thing you don't see any of it)... the effect i was getting on Daxx is the same instead the game would lock up as well but the Audio would play... and would not unfreeze until i rebooted.

... I've seen vidoes of this game and they didn't have the Marcaida glitch either

Well i played that game before 1.2.1 came to be (still in the 1.1 SVN) on my HD4890 which only supported up to dX10. I never used frame skipping. It has only caused me more problems and a dodgy framerate and tearing every time i've played with it.

With the latest stable version of PCSX2, I am experiencing the same issues.

What I actually recommend is the extremely liberal use of save states, at least one every two minutes or so, or savestate before any sort of action begins.

When the freeze inevitably happens, simply upper x the window, and load the savestate.

After experiencing this, I have notice that the Error occurs when enemies such as the Flying Gatling Robots or the prevalent Missile ship.

I tried all of the fixes, removed all of the speedhacks, and tried everything else, but all it did was dampen the issue slightly.

For the sake of framerate, I am playing the game in its enhanced state, only having the savestates to save me.
