Redefined FFX Setup
#1
Hi again, I wrote a couple of.. years ago I guess. Asking for help regarding which build of pcsx2 I should have run.
The main thing I was looking to run was FFX (any version, really), and you guys helped me to it, it was BRILLIANT! Ran at around 55-60fps constantly, during battles and FMV's as well.

Now, however, after a long time, I've reinstalled pcsx2, and when I try to run FFX, I'm getting sub-par speeds, around 33-36 FPS.

Even with EE cyclerate at 2, and VU cycle stealing at 1, with all speedhacks enabled (including MTVU), and running FFX (NTSC) from an ISO image, I'm only getting 40fps tops, and like 35fps in Battles (outside of pause).

I've tried a bunch of stuff, but I really can't get it to work properly. The situation here that bugs me, is that I had it running so well before, but now I simply can't.

Here are my specifications:
I'm running Windows 7 (64-bit Ultimate edition)
AMD Phenom™ X4 955 Processor @ 3.20 GHz
8GB DDR3 Ram
XFX Ati 5850 Graphics Card, I think it's at 1gb.. something.

I'd greatly appreciate your help! Thanks again.
Testicles, that is all.

He may be right,I cranked up 0.9.6 the other day and it ran faster even compared to our latest svn in "some" games eg DragonQuestVIII. But that was always going to be the case, and it has been said through the years that the Emulation was going to get slower as compatibility increased. Well compatibility has indeed increased and in some cases emulation has become more demanding, but its a necessary tradeoff, and one that MTVU hack has offset for many. I guess we just have to live with it Tongue

Hi again, I run PCSX2 0.9.9.5326 (svn), here are my gsdx settings (though I've already tried fiddling with them a lot):

Renderer: Direct3D11 (hardware)
interlacing (F5): None

Original ps2 resolution: Native (checked)

Nothing else checked (No texture filtering, no enable shade boost, no allow 8-bit textures, no enable HW hacks, no edge anti-aliasing).

You either have Windows Power Plan set to "power saving" or running any useless resident anti virus program or something similar which kills your cpu or gpu performance, couse there's no chance you would have any problems running FFX on such hardware, even with x3 or x4 upscaling at constant full speed through whole game.;] You don't have to use MTvu at all for it either, FFX isn't really so demanding.

So start with getting to Control Panel>System and Maintenance>Power Options and change it to high performance or even balanced if you care, just make sure it's not into any power saving mode. If it wasn't on any abusive power saving mode, check what other programs you have running, and turn them off.

I'm using r5236, too. My specs are too crappy compared to hers:

CPU: Phenom II X4 N930 @ 2.0Ghz
GPU: Mobility Radeon HD 4570

FFX runs at full speed at 2x resolution. I use neither EE nor VU hack.

I have no antivirus, and I'm running at high performance already, as a matter of fact, I've even tried it with gamebooster and it makes barely any difference. Do you have any idea what else it could be?

Unless you messed too much in the pcsx2 config(you could try restoring default settings, FFX would just run fine on it) the problem must be in your system.

I doubt anything could just eat up soo much of cpu resources to slow down FFX running at quad, more possible that you have alot of flash based stuff opened on desktop which tends to eat up alot of gpu resources, but still that would really need to be trashed completely to cause lags running at native res over hd5850. Unless ofc it does slow down your system by design, soo it's possible you have some kind of virus or other program which controls your hardware speed.;] Gamebooster programs can have opposite effect(+countless other reasons why they're bad and can make system behave strangely), soo if your system was under it's control, just disable it completely.

Kind of hard to guess what's not working if it's your system or hardware fault, you could check EE/GS% at the titlebar of the window displaying game when running FFX to check if none of it hits 100% which would at least tell that you're cpu limited(while obviously you shouldn't). You could check your cpu and gpu clocks(with cpu-z and gpu-z), see if there isn't any program that takes up most of your system resources(by simply running windows task menager ctrl+alt+del and checking the process tab - you can sort it by cpu usage), if anything fails, you could even check your system with some anti malware or anti virus scanner, if you download anything from any shady sites, watch porn or other stuff like that, you should probably start from that seeing you don't have any anti virus/firewall;P.

Try defragmenting HDD. I also recommend to download CCleaner and "clean" the registry (I helped me, no idea how Laugh).

Edit1:
By the way could you try "hijackthis" ? If so then attach the log and tomorrow I'll look if you've got anythink interesting you shouldn't have. (Google for this stuff)

don't download and use any "cleaner" they will delete important OS files making it unusable Sad
