Resolved: Atelier Iris 3: Grand Phantasm [PAL] broken in 1.7.0 dev 418
#1
The game will check your Save Data and then the emulator will crash before playing any company logo FMV's. Build 350 works fine.

Build 418 x86
Windows 10 - 2004 x64
Ryzen 3700X
ASUS Crosshair VIII Hero (WiFi)
MSI 1070Ti
16GB 3600MHz RAM

Can you try build 387 and see if the issue still occurs?

Edit: Can you also make sure you have an output module selected in your SPU2 (sound) settings. We had another user test the game without issue.

I tried Build 426 and the same issue occurs for Atelier Iris 3: Grand Phantasm. Kingdom Hearts 2 seemingly works without issue (including audio) though I didn't test it beyond confirming gameplay worked after loading a Save File.

Yes everything looks correct in the audio settings CK1. Added a log file.

Okay, so here's some new information pertaining to Atelier Iris 3: Grand Phantasm (KH2 works without issue):

1) "Switch to Software Rendering for FMV's" hack enabled causes the emulator to crash as soon as it attempts to switch from OpenGL to Software for the company logos (after the Checking Save Data screen).

2) Starting the game with Software Renderer results in it crashing either before the 50/60FPS Display Mode Selection screen or after the Checking Save Data screen. I'm... not entirely sure of what influences it but it consistently crashes at either of these points.

3) Starting the game with OpenGL hardware renderer and "Switch to Software Rendering for FMV's" disabled, works fine.

So it seems to be a compatibility issue with this specific game and Software Renderer.

Hmmm... either the issue is intermittent, or it's specifically caused by the "Switch to Software Rendering for FMV's" hack. Software seemingly works fine with that Hack turned off.

So to Summarize:

"Switch to Software Rendering for FMV's" Enabled results in both OpenGL and Software renderers breaking either immediately when launching Atelier Iris 3 or right when the game finishes checking Save Data. The difference in behaviour may be due to whether or not another game was previously loaded during the current PCSX2 session.

"Switch to Software Rendering for FMV's" Disbaled allows both renderers to work without issue.

We think the switch is causing the issue, the implementation has always been pretty dodgy, but recent changes have made it worse, so we're making a list of games on github that need it for the videos to be correct so we can just remove the feature.
