Resolved: [Bug Report] Dragon Quest VIII [NTSC]
#1
#PCSX2 version: 1.3.0-20150112225224 (latest), 1.2.1 (stable, no bug on this version)
#Emulation options: Defaults. Have also tried with everything set to interpreter, and different rounding and clamping settings
#Plugins Used: SPU2-X 2.0.0, ZeroSPU2 r5822, Gigaherz SPU2 1.9.0
#There are no sound effects in the game at all. Voice and music both work perfectly, but footsteps, sword sounds etc do not work at all no matter what I do with plugin or emulation settings.

So you are saying it works on 1.2.1 stable but not on 1.3.0, right?

You try change output module in SPU-2X? The default changed to PortAudio lately, so maybe try Xaudio2

Yeah, I tried everything

That's interesting. Can you give me a specific example and maybe a memcard save? I have the game and I'd like to test it tomorrow, but I don't wanna go through the opening crap lol

I haven't got a memcard save yet, I'm only at the very start of the game Tongue It happens from the first moment you gain control of the character, there are no footsteps, no noise if you break the barrels, no sounds at all except music in the first battle and so on. I can give you my savestate if you like.

Nah, that's okay. I'll just play it in turbo mode.

Try this: Take the SPU-2x plugin from 1.2.1, rename it to something like spu2xold.dll or whatever and put it in the 1.3.0 plugin folder. Run 1.3.0, choose it in plugin/bios selector, configure it, and then try.

If the sound effects work then, then we've isolated the issue to spu-2x and not the emu core, at least.

Now why didn't I think of that. Yes it works fine with SPU2-X from 1.2.1.

Do you use savestates to test the sound or do you restart the game every time you test something new?

Mostly savestates but I did restart a few times, I tried a fresh restart just now and it wasn't working

So some update to spu2-x broke it. At least the devs will know where to look now.

Care to try a few builds from buildbot.orphis.net to track down where it broke?
