Bad allocations are usual on 0.9.6, how about trying a beta?
Core i5 3570k -- Geforce GTX 670  --  Windows 7 x64
Requesting status update and more info. Does this happen with the beta?

Moving this to resolved, too lazy to check whether the bug was actually present in 0.9.6. -_-
