Probably not. The so-called texture cache is too broken to try to fix. I may surprise you with something else at a later date.

is there any documentation for how the ps2 caches textures or is this purely a gabest eccentricity?

I just finished FFXII (82 hours gameplay) and I do recall I had that issue early on. Resolved it by setting the plugin to full texture filtering and switching off 8 bit texture enable. Stretch to screen.
DX10, PCSX2 rev 5277, GSdx rev 5293 (SSE4).

final fantasy 12 - pal - fully playable, issue was graphical glitches in names and textures of walls etc. problem is SOLVED,
nice clean letters of the names and no graphical garbage is there anymore. good job!

Good to know. There are countless FF12 versions around and I remember some of them had weird bugs.
