Rig Update

Alright, I know you guys have everything i need to know about this so here goes.

I need to update my rig so it'll run pcsx2 at full speed at 720p Smile

What I know I need to replace is
processor - something that is compatible with an LGA 775 socket

Power Supply - Should be able to support two disc drives, an ati HD 4850, and a 120 gb hard drive, so my guesstimate is a 500 watt psu with a 6 pin connector.

Last but not least, a decently priced 4850.

Thanks for the Input! but nothing to expensive plz

What's your mobo? If it's decent enough and allows OCing, you could just go with a cheap Pentium Dual Core in the E5000 or E6000 series. If you can't OC, the cheapest Intel dual core CPU with the highest clock I've seen... Probably the E6800. I think it was a 3.3Ghz at around $70.

Not sure what all makes a good PSU, but I would recommend one that's at least 80 Plus certified and has a decent amount of amps on the 12V rail. With a single railed PSU, you should look for something over 30a.

The best prices on GPUs? I usually find them at Newegg. Just avoid cheap brands (Palit, Zotac, Sparkle, etc...) if you can help it.

My advice ditch 4850 and for around $20 more get yourself Dx11 capable 5750 this one http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as...6814102865 or http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as...6814161352 or http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as...6814127494

These are ~500W quality power supplies i would get

Okay now the most important, cpu. You need something with high clocks and you still will have to overclock which means you will need aftermarket air cooler, you can get a good one for $30-$70, the performance gain is worth it, just to give you perspective on why you will need to overclock, i play pcsx2 in 1080p and i had to oc my i7 to 3.5Ghz, I would strongly recommend you to spend extra and buy P67 mobo and go with sandy bridge + 2500k cpu or x58 mobo + i7 950 which is best deal for 1366 socket now, dont waste money on 775 cpu they are getting outdated, but if youre set on 775 the best choices would be:
Best bang for the buck

Better but expensive

After market air cooler which you will need to get enough overclock to run pcsx2 at 720p
These are some of the best, some of them can be pretty big so check dimensions before buying to make sure they fit in your pc case

This one is widely believed to be best air cooler but its pricey for air cooler and pretty big, plus the look is not for everyone

No the first generation core 2 duos does not support sse4. Neither do the earlier intel dual cores.

Pretty sure even the newer Pentium Dual-Core Wolfdales don't support SSE4.1. That's one of the differentiating features between Pentium Dual-Core and Core 2 Duo.
