Right analog stick thinks it's permanently pushed up
#1
Hi everyone, I hope you can help me with my strange issue. I've been trying to do bindings for my Dualshock 2 controller but I've not been able to get the system to register a downwards press on the right analog stick, across several controllers and even multiple adaptors. I believe this is because, for whatever reason, PCSX2 believes my analog stick is permanently pushed quite far up. When I do the pad test and leave the sticks completely neutral and untouched, I get this result:

RX 127 RY 43 LX 127 LY 127

L: (0.000000, 0.000000)
R: (-0.003922, -0.662745)
D: : (0.000000, 0.000000)

When I push the stick all the way to the bottom, RY changes to 127 and the 'R:' numbers match L and D in being totally neutral. I believe this is why I can't get it to register a downwards press - it sees me pull the analog stick down and believes I've just pulled it into the neutral position.

I really don't know what's causing this issue, I didn't have it on my previous laptop and I don't think I've set up PCSX2 any differently on this one other than using the latest version. Is there anything I can do to make it register the analog stick correctly? If it's a cheap/bad adaptor/controller issue, I'm also open to recommendations for better ones, but again they worked fine on my previous laptop. I'd really appreciate any help/ideas at all because it makes it kind of unplayable for me.

What does steam think? What does any other app that allows you to configure gamepads think? Heck, what does windows 'game controllers' think about your sticks?

Without knowing more... it's either the drivers or your controller is broken.

Try a different computer? Does it behave same?

Hey, thank you so much for your reply! I can't post screenshots but I think it looks normal when setting up game controllers on Windows. Z Rotation is in the middle when the stick is neutral, the bar is full when I pull it all the way down, and the bar is empty when I push it up. Left/right also behave as expected and the left stick is fine.

Steam is a rather different situation. On there, it registers the right analog stick correctly, but on the other hand, it doesn't register the left analog stick at all. This is also the case for multiple different controllers and adapters.

I've checked my previous computer (where it worked properly) and the same controllers do register the analog sticks correctly on PCSX2. This is a much older version of PCSX2 though (1.6.0).

I'm not sure why steam thinks differently from windows where your sticks are positioned. Perhaps someone else would know.

Maybe play around with SDL vs xinput settings in the controller options in pcsx2?

just get the new version. it's 100x better than any of the other versions.
the old versions are pretty much obsolete now.
