I've never gotten it to work on intel hd 4400

I don't have a 4400 to test it but it does work on my 4600.

The proprietary Intel windows driver supports only a subset of required ogl functions
This also seem to depend on the gpu generation. Intel seems to drop gpu driver support faster than other manufacturer. Open source linux drivers on the other side seem to work better.
