Actually according to wikipedia, the original release was a single layer DVD while the director's cut edition is a dual layer one.

What bositman said. Even when I put in the original disc it reads it at 3.14 gigs. I even tried it on two different computers just to make sure. I'm not so sure it's even the disc anymore because it plays fine on my original PS2. Guess I'm just going to have to play it on the ps2 with crappy textures and a low resolution
