[SOLVED] Shadow of the Colossus running slow on a good pc
#1
Good afternoon.

So I decided to install PCSX2 1.2.1 (r5875) to run some PS2 games (mainly the exclusives), and now I'm running Shadow of the Colossus, but there is a problem, in some boss fights the FPS get so low (like 10-15FPS) it's unplayable, even with my [email protected].

At first I thought it was a limitation of the emulator and gave up on playing, but then I watched this Youtube video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lXe_jzstX-M , in which this user is playing with such a smooth framerate, especially during the third boss fight at around 5m30s, which is the part I gave up on playing because it was unbearably slow.
I already copied all the configs and hacks that user has posted on the video's About and still I get a low frame-rate, even if I put the graphics in native I get low FPS's...

Any ideas why can't I get the Youtube video framerate?

Best regards.

Use the VU cycle stealing hack. Don't use the EE cycle rate hack. MTVU may or may not cause slow downs.

Hello.

I already trying all combinations of VU Cycle and EE Cycle hacks but the frame-rate dips are the same Sad

I even overclocked my CPU further to 5.3Ghz just to see if it was a CPU limitation and still got low FPS's.

I changed my settings to match that video's About, so my settings are much like this:

PCSX2 configuration:

GSdx v0.1.16 (SSE4) rev 5464 (DX11 Hardware, Texture Filtering)
Half-Pixel offset Hack
Internal Resolution: 2560x1792 (4x native, which in this case is 640x448)
SPU2-X v2.0.0 SVN rev 5478
Lilypad v0.10.0 SVN rev 5282
USBnull,FWnull,DEV9null
Recommended speed hacks on
Vu cycle stealing level 2,EE cycle stealing level 2
MTVU OFF - causes slowdowns!
Automatic Game Fixes on

I even tried to lower all my setting (like put the resolution in native), but the framerate is still low.

First, disable SLI for pcsx2. Second don't use EE cycle stealing.

Solved.

It was mainly the SLI that was causing the FPS drops, and EE cycle stealing was also causing some FPS drops.

After disabling the SLI and playing a little, so far I have 60FPS locked on the third boss fight (I used to have like 15-20).

Already edited the title.

Thanks. Smile

You're welcome. I didn't notice you had SLI'd 680's at first.
