SSE3 Not recognized by plugin
#1
Hi.

Re : PCSX2 0.9.7.3113 (svn) May 29 2010

I cannot use the plugin that employs SSE3 because it keeps telling me that I don't have an SSE3 capable system.

I'm rather convinced that this is anything but accurate.

Any thoughts / ideas on what's failing here ?

The plugin that will not work - tells me my system does not support SSE3.01 : GSdx 3068 (MSVC 15.00, SSE3) 0.1.16 [GSdx SSE3]

pay close attention, its SSSE3 (thats 3 S's), which AMD processors do not support, im afraid you're stuck with the SSE2 version

AMD doesn't have ssse3

SSE3 is NOT SSSE3

use sse2 instead.

Despite the similarity of the names, SSE3 is unrelated to sSSE3 and the same is true for SSE4a and SSE4.1.
AMD has to date not implemented the sSSE3 and SSE4.1 instruction sets on any of their CPUs.
Therefore the recommended GSdx version for AMD users is the SSE2 one.

There is a minor speed loss, but it is only about 10% overall.

And also use latest beta PCSX2 0.9.7 r3878

Oh well damn if I don't feel like a retard *now* - I honestly just didn't notice that 3rd "S" at all.... Thanks guys, this will keep me from banging my head on that any further ( duh.....)

I was looking around for chipset drivers and whatnot before the power went off today ( taking the internet with it, of course.. just came back on a few minutes ago..)
I can go ahead and let that go, seems like :-P
As for latest beta, definitely gonna try that.. Have had very good experience with beta I've been using, but hoping this next one has stable savestate support and better resume ( with current one I'm using, "resuming" ends up in missing text once back in..)

Peace :-)

Addendum : I think it's a shame that the devs just decided to skip SSE3 and jump from SSE2 to SSSE3... I mean - why leave SSE3 out ?

Because SSE3 is useless to the emulator, however SSSE3 had some beneficial instructions

Why aren't you implenting actually the AMD APIs then? Or are they worthless cause the majority using Intel?? (Yeah I totally dislike intel myself, but besides that fact) Wink

And yea, we made a moderation tool for this question Tongue2

StriFe79:
AMD only offers SSE4a which consists of like 5 useless opcodes. Nothing to gain there Tongue2

Not really on topic but Ive read several site stating that the next generation amd cpus will actually support SSE4.2. So hopefully they will offer a very good cheap option for people with pcsx2 in mind.
