Setting up advice

You can, but it will be stretched if the game doesn't natively support widescreen. Play from an ISO with the latest PCSX2 svn

Generally, you're best off starting at default, low settings, and tinkering around to optimize your performance. Then if you get decent speeds, push up the graphical settings as far as you can while maintaining full speed (or as high as you can get). I'd recommend using the presets in Emulation Settings, on the bottom of the dialog screen, if you're not sure about setting them yourself, though, generally its fine with the default settings.

Also try using the recommended speed hacks. (says recommended on their tooltips)

Honestly, that 2.53Ghz Core 2 Duo may not quite give you full speed with Tekken 5.
It might do a little better in recent revisions,
but my 2.8Ghz Core 2 Duo could never quite pull it off for me.

Utilize what few Speedhacks actually help,
and watch out for breakage with excess on the cycle sliders.
IIRC, the MTVU hack didn't help this game for me,
but setting the VU1 recompiler to superVU1 helped a bit.

For internal resolution,
just keep the horizontal axis at ~1200 or less.
That's the trick to it.
(e.g. 1920x1080 will have lines, but 1080x1920 will not)
