Should I bother upgrade to this CPU?

Make sure that chip is the D0 stepping version if you can, these are the best overclocker in that series.

Only 3.4GHZ? I've seen a C0 at 4.2GHZ stable, OC that bad boy to 3.8GHZ lol.

Well, I don't know if I'll be overclocking as I'm not too familiar with it. How much would I have to spend on extra cooling equipment so my computer doesn't explode? Laugh

Like $30 for a decent CPU-cooler. You don't have to go super expensive on the cooler unless you want to do some extreme overclocking, which is definitely not recommended for an OC newb Smile

This was a "no-brainer" overclock, simply bump up the bus and touch nothing else. Im firmly in the belief if i could be bothered, i could get this to 4-4.2Ghz easy enough, however its pleanty fast enough where it is, without the extra heat and life span reduction

I wouldn't consider 3.4GHz "plenty fast" for Pcsx2 =P

I would...only a few games would need much more than that. Besides, the i7 series is inherently more efficient than previous Intel processors.

it is on an i7 lol. probably not much different in speed from your E8500

Ok.. so is the i7 MUCH faster clock-for-clock than the older intel CPUs? because pcsx2 only uses 2 cores.

and the last time I checked 3.4GHz was not "plenty" enough for me when running Pcsx2. It was mostly 60-90fps in all the games, but it still lags in certain areas of the games, the FPS would drop down to 50 in some areas, which is not good enough for me.

50 fps is ample playable. yes some games are still slow but its to be expected at this point. All the games that work properly run at about full speed or higher. to be honest it probably isnt "As" fast, but the FFX intro is 10fps quicker on mine than an E8600 @ 3.6ghz, so i imagine itll be more towards the 4ghz mark before it catches up

An E8500 @ 4.2GHZ will out perform an i7 at 3.4GHZ when it comes to app's that can only handle 2 cores..
