Should I bother upgrade to this CPU?

Don't upgrade, socket 939 is so dead.

As others said, there's no point upgrading to another Athlon 64 X2 CPU.

I actually had a Athlon 64 X2 3800+ till last week. I don't know what motherboard and memory you have, but on stock voltage mine overclocked easily to 2.5GHz, and with a slight bump and a decent cooler 2.6GHz isn't difficult either.

So, your best bet would be to to either overclock, or save up for a new system (since for going AM3, Core2 or i7 you'll also need new mobo, memory and, maybe, PSU).

@OP: The fastest CPU your motherboard can take is an x2 4800+ (Toledo). However, you'll have to keep in mind that finding such a CPU is not going to be a cakewalk, and that, on the other hand, it would be a pointless upgrade. Just wait for the prices to go down on AM3 CPUs and motherboard. Or, if you have enough money, get either an AM3 or 775 CPU+mobo combo.

@dyingdemon: Wasn't able to find your motherboard model name, as there seems to be no word on it. Unless you have some kind of manual that states what brand and model your motherboard is, you'll have to open your case and look for it yourself before anybody can give you accurate advice.

Okay, it seems the general consensus is for me to upgrade my computer entirely, as my options for upgrading the CPU are not only limited, but futile.

I've been out of the hardware "loop" since my last computer purchase (2005), so I'm not entirely sure what I should be getting. Here is the rig I put together:
Computer Pieces Wrote:CPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as...6819115202 ( Intel Core i7 920 Nehalem 2.66GHz 4 x 256KB L2 Cache 8MB L3 Cache LGA 1366 )

Motherboard: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as...6813138135 ( BIOSTAR TpowerX58 LGA 1366 Intel X58 ATX Intel Motherboard )

Video Card: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as...6814130339 ( EVGA 512-P3-N871-AR GeForce 9800 GTX+ 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 )

Memory: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as...6820145235 ( CORSAIR XMS3 12GB (6 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) )

PSU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as...6817182185 ( Rosewill RG630-2 630W 80Plus Certified, ATX12V v2.3, SLI Ready, Core i7 Ready, Active-PFC Power Supply, UL,FCC,CE,CB,ROHS )

HDD: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as...6822136313 ( Western Digital RE3 WD1002FBYS 1TB 7200 RPM 32MB )

BD Driver: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as...6827136155 ( LG Black 6X BD-R 2X BD-RE 16X DVD+R 6X BD-ROM 4MB )

Case: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as...6811119138 ( COOLER MASTER COSMOS 1000 RC-1000-KSN1-GP Black/ Silver Steel ATX Full Tower Computer Case )

I was targeting for $1600 and under, this falls around $1400 so I'm content with it. Can anybody be kind of enough to review these pieces and make sure they all work together? Things I'm not sure about is the memory and power supply.

Also, is the computer a good investment or are some of these pieces already dated? Trying to build a rig to last me another 3-5 years, as I usually upgrade every 3-5 years.

And I guess the most relevant question for this forum would be...will this be enough power to emulate Playstation 2 games with pcsx2?

Thanks!

I don't see any glaring issues. Why do you want 12 gigs of RAM, by the way? That's like....super overkill. I'd also get a after-market CPU cooler, especially if you are going to want to experiment with overclocking(I definitely would on a core i7).

Save some money on RAM and get a better GPU, like a GTX 275 or something.

Well, I simply went with 12GB of ram because it was the largest amount that still fit into the $1600 budget...

But you intrigue me with the GTX card. Looking at this site... http://www.gpureview.com/show_cards.php?...&card2=609 ...it seems that the 9800 has some better features. But I'm not sure what really matters in a video card, so I'll shoot for a 275 as you said.

Okay, swapped the video card with a Geforce GTX 275 and I also changed the power supply because the two came as a combo before. This is the current set up:
