Should I go with Intel or AMD?

I also wanna ask if the Core i5-650 can run PCSX2 without a discrete graphics card?

i5 should be good enough, I'm using an E4600 (look my signature) and I can run pretty good games at full speed with a crappy Ati HD3650. Like someone said before, all depends of the game you want to emulate, for example If you want to run something like Guitar Hero 3, Metal Gear 2 or 3 you need a 3.4Ghz CPU (Any dual, quad or ixx series) or a kick ass video card Ati 5xxx or Nvidia XXX should be needed. But for games like FFx, FF12, FFx-2, Yakuza2, Persona 3 or 4, Kingdome hearts any 3ghz should be good enough Smile

That is if he really need to use all the 6 core, I'd rather have 4 stronger cores than 6 weaker one...

Yes it will, but expect native resolution at max and slowdown in some more GPU intensive game like Dragon Quest 8.

If you are bound to a H55 board with an Intel configuration, I would recommend AMD. I heard those H55 boards are terrible for overclocking. And you definitely want to overclock for PCSX2. Also the stock X4 955 should not be much slower compared to the i5-750, since it has a much higher base speed. If you have more money to spend on a decent mainboard (preferably with P55 chipset) and on a decent heatsink go i5. Although the socket for i5 is kind of a dead end for upgrades.
Intel i5 3450
AsRock B75-Pro3-M
Sapphire R9 290 Tri-X OC
8GB DDR3-1333 RAM
Sandisk Ultra Plus 256GB
Seagate 7200.14 1TB x2
Enermax Triathlor 450W PSU

I can recommend from my experience:
for pcsx2 and gaming - intel core i5 680 3.6GHz or amd phenom II X2 550/555 3.1/3.2GHz (not much slower than i5 for real)
for general purposes - i7 960 3.2GHz or amd phenom II X4 955/965 3.2/3.4GHz, phenom II X6 1090t 3.2GHz
Any cpu with clock lower than 3GHz will be slow sometimes, it won't run all games fullspeed, so if u decide to buy something like that don't ask all the time if it will be good for pcsx2. The answer is it won't.
AMD Phenom II 550 Black Edition @3.8GHz
4GB DDR2 1066MHz CL5-5-5-15
ASUS Radeon EAH4770 Formula 512MB DDR5

I currently have an Athlon II x2 240 (OC to 3.5) GHz and I'm dissatisfied with it's performance. (full specks in profile, click on my avatar)
Let me give you an example.

While playing Dragon Quest 8 (NTSC), I can't enable vsync to remove the on screen tearing of the images when i pan the camera around.

This is because I frequently get dips in fps below 60 FPS (to as low as 53 FPS), and if v-sync is enabled when that happens, framerate will drop to the 30's.

In other words, so long as i stand still, or walk in a straight line, with v-sync enabled, the game looks great. Also, battles are smooth.

If screen tearing doesn't bother you at all, then go with AMD.
However, if it bothers you, then go with intel.

Here is what I'm saving up for:
$105 GIGABYTE GA-P55M-UD2 LGA 1156 Intel P55 Micro ATX Intel Motherboard
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as...6813128405

$210 Intel Core i5-760 Lynnfield 2.8GHz LGA 1156 95W
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as...6819115067

$110 CORSAIR XMS3 4GB (2 x 2GB) DDR3 SDRAM 1600 CMX4GX3M2A1600C8
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as...6820145263

$69 ZALMAN CNPS10X QUIET 120mm 2 Ball CPU Cooler
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as...6835118052

When I finally get the new stuff, i'm gonna use the following guide for overclocking it:
http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/256144...king-guide

Also, neither Athlons nor Phenoms support GSdx's SSSE3 or SSE4 modes.

Of course, my advice comes with a caveat.
I can't say, for sure, if the i5 760 (or 750) will actually let me get a full 60 FPS in DQ8 (because I haven't tested it out myself), nor can I say that there is no AMD CPU that can't do it either (as the X2 240 is the fastest AMD CPU I currently own).

However, either of the 2 cpus in the Original Post will, indeed, playback HD Fandubs of anime, and any other 480p/i, 720p, 1080p/i content you throw at it.
My PCSX2 Rig:Windows XP x32 & Windows 7 x64.
i5 2500k @ 4.0 GHz.
nVIDIA GTX 460 1 GB.
