Software mode on AMD FX 6300
#1
I wondered what the optimal number of extra rendering threads to set for software mode was with my FX6300? Since I have six cores, I have set it to six. But since it says "EXTRA rendering threads" I wonder if I end up with 7 threads that way?

What would be the best number to set?

Basic pcsx2 is 2 thread, MTVU activated is 3. You want, at most that set to 3-4. There are greater diminishing returns even if you have more threads beyond that anyways.

Yeah, 3~4 regardless of how many cores/threads your processor has (beyond that) would produce the best results. In some cases setting too many threads could actually lower performance a bit.

Thanks guys.

You could, so to say, "look for a sweet spot". I've seen someone on here getting the best performance with 16 extra rendering threads for some reason. Just a bit of testing and fooling around.

I actually ran some tests just now.

Crash Bandicoot: WOC in warp room. No speedhacks, default settings, frame limit off, software.

Extra Rendering threads / FPS

0 - 45
1 - 54
2 - 64
3 - 61
4 - 59
5 - 59

It seems the sweet spot at least in that game is 2 extra rendering threads.

Very interesting... This will come in handy when I replace my current Llano with a Richland soon.
