as most of the devs say here the main bottleneck is cpu not gpu.

Hm, what keyword should I be typing to search and read up more on the recommended CPU? I might as well as look at entire way of upgrading my computer while I am at it even if I do things bits by bits...!

I am kinda thinking if I can get PS2 games running 100% on my computer I really wouldn't need much upgrade for awful long time.

E8400 is probably the best option if your not interested in overclocking. my friend uses one and it works great for hardware mode.

just get a mobo that supports it if your current one doesnt. cheap option would be the P5KPL-CM, only supports 4gb of ram tho, prob its only setback imo great mobo otherwise.

well im off to sleep now, good luck heh

It really depends on the game your trying to play, you can prob see full speeds on some games, if not full speeds then playable speeds at least. (using all speed hacks and newest beta)
Laptop Rig:

Core 2 Duo @ 1.8Ghz
3 gb DDR2-800 RAM
256mb ATI HD 3430
Windows Vista Buisness 32-Bit

Desktop Rig:

P4 HT @ 3.0Ghz
3 gb DDR2-533 RAM
256mb ATI X1300
Windows XP Pro 32-Bit
