Speed / Lag problems
#1
Hello guys.

I've lately tried this great Emulator for PS2 but I'm having some problems to make it run correctly and smoothly.
I read the FAQs and also some similar post in the forum but I noticed that the solutions are often strictly connected to the kind of components and sometimes settings.

My problem is that, sometimes/often, the speed of the emulation drops from 100% to 50/60% as well as the FPS, of course. I also noticed that, in those cases, the EE reaches the 100%, while the GS hangs between 4 and 25-30%. Now, I don't know what it means but reading the other posts it seems these values are important too.
I have this problem with ALL the games I tried ( I tried different to see if it might be due to compatibility.

Games tried:

God of War
Pro Evlolution Soccer 3
Hokuto no ken - fist of north star (it's a 2D game)
Harvest moon
BDZ budokai tenkaichi 3

Here it is my desktop:

OS: Windows 7 Professional 64 bit
Processor: AMD FX™- 6300 Six-Core Processor 3.5 GHz
RAM: 8GB
Graphic: Radeon RX 560 series
DirectX 11

I already tried:

-Performance Plan/Power Plan: High Performance
-Triggering 8 bits textures
-Both Direct 3D9 (harware) and Direct 3D11 (Hardware)
-Aggressive Speed Hacks
-Triggering MTUV (since my processor has 6 cores)

This Is my log file.
What I want to know is if there's a way to make the emulator running smoothly by changing some settings or trying hacks combinations or else, or if the problem depends strictly on the pc and it's just not good enough to run this emulator and, eventually, what to change to fix it.

Thanks Smile

Your CPU is struggling (EE = 100%)
Overcloking your CPU may help a bit, but don't expect miracles.

This may be the most informed first post I've seen! We generally recommend 1600-1800 stp for the easiest games to emulate. While you have plenty of cores.. their single thread performance rates in the 1400 range.. You're on the weak side, and there may be some games you can play at full speed.. there will be plenty your cpu just cannot handle.

PCSX2 is very reliant on single thread performance unfortunately..

aahn thank you. I read a lot around this forum before posting my first thread, checking old posts and FAQs... that's how I got an idea about what would be useful to write and what solutions I might try before asking for help here.

So, basically, there's nothing I can do 'cause the problem comes from the processor.
I wonder if this is also related to the emulator or if I could have a better luck trying a different one (just saying, I don't even ever checked if another good one currently exists).

Thanks for your help anyway! I'll keep playing with settings to see if I can manage to make the less demanding games running smoothly before giving up Smile

unfortunately, pcsx2 is the best one.
But it's also a demanding one

I have a laptop with roughly 1500 stp that I can get to play ffx at mostly 60 fps.. with an aftermarket video card so none of that processing is being used on my proc vs. using the onboard video.. I might be able to keep it running smooth.. with speed hacks I'm sure I could.. but ffx is supposedly one of the easiest games to emulate..

if you want to play around and try things I would recomend making a second PCSX2 portable install (using the portable.ini file so it does not do it's weird registry stuff I think the dev builds are set up like this by default, but if you try other versions I would do it), then maybe some ideas in this totally not supported thread might help.

https://forums.pcsx2.net/Thread-PCSX2-co...-SUPPORTED

If you have graphical issues, weird glitches, or other things go wrong the answer will be to undo what you did from ideas in the thread.... So try at your own risk\patience for working out issues.

Even though Nvidia graphics card tends to be better in PCSX2 than the ones from AMD, it looks like your graphics card is still very good. I saw that the benchmark G3D mark is 4396 and that's really good. Have you been using HW mode? Also, I saw that there are various settings you might need to tweak to get an AMD card working well.

You can actually get used third/fourth generation Intel i5's and i7's systems for really cheap on places like Ebay ($150-250 USD price range). These obsolete Intel's would be a step up for the most part form your FX system all around not just for PCSX2. Just something to think about.

Yeah you would need to oc that FX CPU to upwards of 4.5ghz or even higher depending on games you want to play and even then it still won't net you full speed in some games. I personally have an i5 [email protected] which nets me about 2300STP and I still struggle in a number of games.
