Big problem. PCSX2 is unusable after upgrade...

FPS best/worst/avg (rounded to 5):
pre-upgrade: 100%/40%/85% (Render method affects stats)
post-upgrade: 20%/5%/15% (FPS is the same, software or hardware rendered)

SPECS:

old {
Intel Pentium Gold 5400G
2x 4GB DDR4-2666 @ 2400
AMD RX460 2GB
Debian 9.5
PCSX2 1.4.0
}

new {
Ryzen 3600X
2x 4GB DDR4-2666 @ 2666
AMD RX460 2GB
Debian 10.3
PCSX2 1.5.0
}

All I did was get a much better CPU (and board, duh AM4), update my OS and PCSX2, and clock my existing memory up to 2666 (its vendor-specified max). So why is it worse? What am I missing? Is something in Linux broken? Why does software and hardware rendering have no discrepancy? I consider myself a competent Linux user, but this has me baffled. Please help. Where did I go wrong (if it is my fault) and how could I try to fix this?
Ryzen 3600X || 8GB DDR4-2666 || GTX 1650 4GB || Debian 10 || PCSX 1.7 (App Image), 1.5 (Stable), 1.4 (EOL)

[blah, blah, moan, moan: I upgraded my CPU & updated my OS but PCSX2 was slower, see previous post for more]

Solved my own problem. Gonna leave this post as it is very important for Linux users.

The problem is that PCSX2 v1.5 is buggy on Linux. Debian 9 has 1.4 but Debian 10 hss 1.5. Arch/Manjaro use 1.4 by default which, if you know those distros, is ironic. It's also how I found the bug. I always use a Manjaro live DVD to test gaming problems. The PCSX2 version was the only variable and is the cause.

Solution (for Debian, adjust for your distro):
1) Go to the Debian online package tracker.
2) Find both your PCSX ver (>=1.5) and 1.4 (in Debian 9 "Stretch")
3) Ensure the dependencies for PCSX2 1.4 are met by your current PCSX2 install.
4) Download the 1.4 deb
5) apt-get purge pcsx2. But do not remove the depencies (no autoremove). If you must, reinstall the deps manually.
6) dpkg -i <name-of-pcsx2-v1.4-package>.deb
7) You should be done. If there are dep probs, just install them. Also, you can now use apt-get autoremove as dpkg will have configured the "redundant" packages as deps for the 1.4 deb.

I don't blame Team PCSX2. The last Linux stable they released was 1.4, but some distros have taken it upon themselves to build the 1.5+ code and build it without proper testing. Will be filing a bug later. Anywat, hope users with issues are infomed of this.

Hey guys, I'm trying to play NFS Underground 1 and 2, Metal Gear Solid 2, Spider Man 2, Medal of Honor Frontline and it gets real laggy. Is there any way to solve this? It's a laptop by the way. Thank you in advance!

quick edit: I tried a lot of custom settings, EE cycle stuff, speedhacks, native x2, etc... to no avail.

My Specs:
CPU: Intel Core i3-5015U CPU @ 2.1 GHz
Integrated Graphics: Intel HD Graphics 5500
RAM: 4 GB DDR3
Operating System: Windows 10

Considering you're trying to run some of the most difficult games to emulate with a weak CPU, the best bet is still to play them on your real PS2
