Suikoden 3 Freeze

I am playing Suikoden 3 and am currently playing Chris chapter 3. I am at the part in Chisha village where I tell Caesar that I'm ready to fight afterwards the screen fades out and a battle screen is supposed to come up but nothing happens, the music stops as well.

I've played around with some settings like different plugins and lowering the settings but it keeps doing the same thing every time.

Any ideas?
