I'm trying to import the save file and all goes well until I actually play the game and it wont read the save file at all!
It's the NTSC version by the way. Can someone help me please?

read what's the SLUS (supposing it is for USA market game version) shown at the console and try to find a save game for the exact version. The external name alone is not enough.
As last resource you can try the conversion (which works sometimes) using the utility called Ps2Save-builder.
