this is a bad comparation.. sorry OP....
I have 4870 512mb (essentially the same amount memory of your old 4850) and I run 1920 just fine. Even I pump it higher to 2500 res, it runs fine too. I don't think VRAM has a lot to do with your performance. Why don't u try to get a 4850 1GB gpu and see if you get any boost? lol that would settle the argument once and for all eh?

I think bandwith of ram can give some advantage in game but beware about gimmick driver gpu, this can give some bost fps but with kill some visual quality like 1 to 0 or like speed hacks in game and seem like play cheating, he..x4.

It's not a matter of RAM size. It's a matter of GPU Speed (& graphic ram speed too).

Anyone know what, for example, FFX's internal resolution on PS2 was? I was thinking about this the other day, because it looks really crappy on native, but better than I remember it when I use something like 900x900.
