Time Crisis 3 FPS drops/slowdowns
#1
Hi all on here. Recently i've been getting into emulating light gun games after learning how there have been some developments in light guns that can work on modern LCD screens. I've been installing/emulating several light gun games (the majority without issue) however the one sticking point i'm at is Time Crisis 3. During the first boss (the helicopter) at the start of the mission my game suddenly tanks its FPS and does not recover any further into the level. The only solution i've found (so far) is pressing F9 to force the game into Software renderer and it'll run fine but looks terrible.

I've spent hours on google trying different versions of PCSX2 and different configs to no avail and so I finally find myself here hoping for some relief. I've put my setup/specs below;

Intel i7 8700k
Corsair Vengeance 16Gb 3000mhz RAM
Nvidia GTX3080Ti

Currently i'm running the emulator with speedhacks turned on with the EE Cyclerate set at 130% so the CG/cutscenes are working. EE Cycle skipping is set to 0. MicroVU hack settings make no difference. Turning off speedhacks breaks the cutscenes but doesn't improve any of the gameplay.

My video plugin settings are set as follows;

I have found other threads/posts where it's said changing the blending accuracy to none/zero helps however I tried this and all it appears to do is re-introduce the "white fog" that covers the screen.

I hope anyone can help me with this. I'm hoping to get this working 100% as many other videos show it working without issue.

Thanks in advance. If you need any more information/testing/settings, please let me know.

1st thing I'd try is lowering the internal resolution. Try something like 3x. If that seems to help, then raise it up until you notice the slowdowns

Tried it on native and 2x. Appears to make no difference. I did some more tweaking last night and it appears to be running better for the majority of the stage but i'm not sure what I tweaked. However there are sections that are prone to huge slow down. I've recorded a video of the gameplay in a window so you can see EE/GS usage.

Any suggestions appreciated.

gs is high. your gpu is being hammered

try putting gs settings to default first
then increase internal res step by step to find the sweet spot

Thanks for the reply.

I stepped down all of my graphics settings to default (see below)

Now when playing the same part of the game, the slow down is still there (GS at 90%-98%) and it (obviously) looks worse. It feels like the slowdown lasts for much longer too.

Any other suggestions I can try or do I just need to suck up these small moments of slowdown? Are there any of the nightly builds that still support the plugins required for lightgun games that would provide better performance? Would using a different reigons game or BIOS give performance improvements?

Back again with some more testing results. Managed to source a PAL version of the game purely for testing. The game runs at 50fps (locking it to 60fps by editing the vm.ini causes silly speedup issues) with no issues until the same area as with the NTSC version I was using initially. The slow down in the PAL version lasts for much longer and is more severe.

Any more suggestions?

Please post the contents of the emulog.txt file after the problem occurs. The file can be found in "My Documents\PCSX2\logs" for the installer version or in "PCSX2\logs" for the portable/binary version.

Please make sure to enclose your emulog in code tags like so (remove the empty space on the closing code tag!):

i see.
best would probably be to update pcsx2, but you'll lose lightgun support.
so...
Back to your real PS2, i guess ?

Hopefully lightgun support will be added to the newer builds soon Smile
