Unable to launch a game: Please help!

When I attempt to launch one of my games, nothing happens. I am just presented with a black screen which goes nowhere. I see no apparent error messages in the PCSX2 launch list.

My BIOS directory contains the following files:

EROM.BIN
ROM1.BIN
ROM2.BIN
SCPH-70012_BIOS_V12_USA_200.bin
SCPH-70012_BIOS_V12_USA_200.MEC
SCPH-70012_BIOS_V12_USA_200.NVM

I have followed all of the installation and configuration instructions to the letter, as far as I can tell.

What could be wrong?
