Valkyrie Profile Battle Crashes

Game crashes randomly at some battles in the area but crashes every single time at the beginning of the Kraken boss battle.

I have tried several PCSX2 builds going back to 2020. I have tried the v1.7.0 stable build, I have tried the most recently Nightly build.

I have tried messing with various settings, and have always had the settings recommended on the Wiki. Changing graphic renderers even to Software does not fix the  issue.

I have tried fresh folder installs of PCSX2. Nothing has worked.

I hear talk of an anti-cheat game break feature but I have never cheated or used widescreen patches and this is not the place where I believe that is the happen. Is there a bypass in case that is it? Although I don't see how...

Please help! I was enjoying this game so much, and I can't even find this issue mentioned anywhere else.

Please post the contents of the emulog.txt file after the problem occurs. The file can be found in "My Documents\PCSX2\logs" for the installer version or in "PCSX2\logs" for the portable/binary version.

Oops! I had assumed because there was no log immediately after the crash that it wouldn't give me one for a soft lock, but it's there now. Here it is.

I noticed that it is saying it is loading cheats, all of my widescreen patches that I pre-downloaded a long time ago. However, I have never enabled widescreen patches or cheats for Valkyria Profile 2 so I still don't believe that is the cause. Also, as I understand it, this is not the place where that becomes an issue.

It is indeed. You are basically ***** up. As long as the protection is triggered, there is no known way to finish the game.

I only used the save state to get back to before the boss quickly. It crashed before without save states and on multiple builds.

So even though I never enabled the cheats or patches, they're still activated? What is the point of having the toggle then? I never had any of the other problems associated with the patch like crashing at sound settings or when changing attack, in fact I can do both of those things now. Also, I've always heard it said that it lets you get to Chapter 5 even if you trip it. I am only at the beginning of Chapter 3.

How do you verify that it is the protecton?

Anyone know of my some saves around this area?

I have spent more time on hacking this game than you have on playing it. Crashing after triggering the random battle is the most common way the protection kicks in. I have never encountered other types crashes, personally. This game does use code overlays, so after entering the settings, various parts of the code in the memory are replaced with different ones. Maybe older widescreen patches were imperfect, causing the game to crash in the settings or in the battle?

It is not that the crashing starts to happen only in the chapter 5. It could happen earlier, including chapter 3 too. But the game will not allow you to progress the chapter 5 at all.

Sounds a bit needlessly hostile, but thanks anyways. At least I'm only about nine hours in. I'll just restart the game. Anything special I need to do to make sure I don't trip this again doing normal emulator things? I've already deleted the patches so that won't be an issue again.

I am sorry, you are right that it was too harsh. Regarding the game, you have to start over and delete all the saves from the memory card (important thing). If you apply any patches, load the GameGuard disable codes first you can find on the forum (do not use old Ryudo ones, use my port of Maori-Jigglypuff's PAL patch instead). Loading any cheats found in the web could trigger the protection as well (I am not interested in cheats, so I did not test any). I have made proper widescreen patches for this game which should be working right (they do not include the protection bypass codes, so you have to obtain them separately).

I copied and pasted the code by Agrippa from the wiki into CC96CE93.pnach file but it still will not load. Help?
