Video Card Upgrade -> Full speed?
#1
As title says, if I upgrade my video card, will I be able to run Dark Cloud faster than 30-50 FPS?

Current Specs:
AMD Phenom II 850 x4 @ 3.3gHz (any more and it sh*ts itself)
Speed: 3315 Mhz
4 logical processors
4 physical processors

Operating System Version:
Windows Vista (64 bit)

Video Card:
Driver: NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GT

Driver Version: 8.17.12.8026
DirectX Driver Version: 8.17.12.8026
Driver Date: 3 Aug 2011
Desktop Color Depth: 32 bits per pixel
Monitor Refresh Rate: 75 Hz
DirectX Card: NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GT
Number of Monitors: 1
Number of Logical Video Cards: 1
No SLI or Crossfire Detected
Primary Display Resolution: 1280 x 1024
Desktop Resolution: 1280 x 1024
Primary Display Size: 17.80" x 14.21" (22.76" diag)
45.2cm x 36.1cm (57.8cm diag)
Primary Bus: PCI Express 16x
Primary VRAM: 512 MB
Supported MSAA Modes: 2x 4x 8

RAM: 4094MB

My mobo is a ASRock N68-S which has an inbuilt video card which doesn't seem to be able to be used in conjunction with my 8600 GT.

It's not a good V-card, and I'm getting an upgrade regardless, but I want to know if changing the card will make PS2 games go faster?

Sam Lynch

some games will, others won't.
Dark cloud is more CPU demanding, AFAIK.
getting a better GPU will help you, of course. But maybe not that much.
which version do you have ? PAL or NSTC ?
CPU : AMD Ryzen 7 3800X
Mobo : Asus PRIME B450-PLUS
GPU : NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070
RAM : 16 Go

Tell me, Sam; Is your 8600GT a DDR2 or DDR3 card?

If DDR3, you may very well get better performance with the right settings.
If DDR2, your 8600GT is quite likely your bottleneck.

Your CPU (@ 3.3Ghz) should be capable of handling this game on it's end, but still may need a few hacks.

8600 GT will give you best results at native resolution. Upgrading to something bette gives you the ability to play games at a higher res. But generally, a CPU upgrade is a better option for most games. Some games required both CPU and GPU Wink

Best budget card would be a ati 5770 there damn good at performing and only like 115$ and also will play all your pcsx2 games FINE I have it and I LOVE it.

Depends on what your current bottleneck is.

What do the EE/GS% numbers in game window say when you get slowdowns in your game?

Not quite, you can find GTX 460 cards for the same price and they're faster.

hmm
u just need to adjust framelimiter

base adjust to 200%
slow motion 100%
turbo 300%

Speedhack EE-1 VU-0
tick wait for loop detection

sse4
direct3d9 hardware
tick 8 bit texture
tick texture filtering

tested on intel core i7 1.73ghz (4core) 4gb ram ATI HD 5470 (laptop)
games tested persona 3 fes achieve fps constant speed of 59 fps to 60fps!(fullscreen)

excuse me, but...
Are you retarded ?

I told you once that SSE4 plugin won't work with AMD CPUs.
I told you that Dx10 hardware mode is generally faster than Dx9 are you seeking another warning for spamming ?

Shadow Lady, but even if the 460 is faster, some people rather use their own brand ofcourse (NO offense intended) Smile

Yeh, I'd also rather have real budget cards (sub $100) rather than brand but they all seem to be stuck at same speed for quite a while which is a shame... so now we moved "budget" cards to a wee bit higher where there's actual improvements in speed Tongue2
