Video Freezes but sound keeps going
#1
Hey everyone,

Pretty new to this so forgive my ignorance on trying to figure this out.
I am playing neo contra, and I get about 2 minutes in and the video completely freezes as do any sound effects but the music keeps going.
I am running it off the original disc in my computers DVD drive and the game is in mint condition so i dont think that is the issue.
Here is the log. I am running the default options, I tried playing with some things that but that only made it worse so went back to the defaults.
Here is the log once the video freezes

Vif1: Unknown VifCmd! [c7]
Vif1: Unknown VifCmd! [3f]
Vif1: Unknown VifCmd! [3c]

Any help would be greatly appreciated I really miss playing my PS2 games. Want to try Zone of the Enders 2 next!

Please post the contents of the emulog.txt file after the problem occurs. The file can be found in "My Documents\PCSX2\logs" for the installer version or in "PCSX2\logs" for the portable/binary version.

Please make sure to enclose your emulog in code tags like so (remove the empty space on the closing code tag!):

You should try dumping your disc to a disc image. I would suggest ImgBurn as it's widely used for PS2 disc dumping. Also, you should try out the GIT builds as there are vast improvements over the stable 1.4.0 release.

Hi gtgamer, what is a GIT build?
I will try creating a disc image see to see if that helps

GIT builds are also known as developer builds. About three to four or at most, five builds are being compiled daily. Each one increases compatibility or fixes a glitch or bug within the emulator. If you need a link, click here: https://buildbot.orphis.net/pcsx2/index....rev-v1.5.0
You should always try the latest build if you could. Of course, you don't need to update constantly, but you should at least try a newer build to fix an issue that you come across with.

No difference using an image file, same thing still happens.
Downloaded the latest develop build but I don't see any application in there to run. Not sure if I am missing something.
Could also just be an issue with the game because I played about 10 minutes of another game without the same issue.

I forgot to mention that GIT builds are portable versions, meaning that they are binary and you simply click the pcsx2.exe file to run it.

That's what I mean though. In the build that I downloaded there is no pcsx2.exe file :/

Have you tried a slightly older build? Or maybe try redownloading the build? Here's what it contains typically:
