I had a 660 ti before I picked up a 970 and had no issues but then again I had a 2gb version. Not sure if you are saying they went 1.5gb+0.5gb on the card but I saw no issues with Skyrim running with a bunch of mods and even up to 4k textures and SMIM installed.
