Just another example.
Digital Devil Saga with both the native resolution of my monitor (1440x900, the screenshot is 1200x900 because of the 4:3 aspect ratio) and 4x scaling (should be 2048x1792), both with and without AA, the 4x scaling is definitely better looking with or without AA from GSdx (I still like the 4x scaling without AA better Tongue).

1440x900 (no AA, 4x AA)

4x Scaling (no AA, 2xAA)

in the lower res the AA makes things blur and its not good for the eye (you can even get headaches from that) and doesnt look good.

but in the high res AA just "corrects" the edges and the blur it adds its almost in a level the eye cant see. i would vote for the x4 WITH AA

Same with me I try to run my Games at about 2 to 3 times scaling with 4xAA. Looks nice and clean plus AA tends to clean up edge crawl much better unfortunately I haven't found a way to do anything with the notorious texture crawl the PS2 is known for. Which can be really bad in some games.
